MDA Day 3

WOW

Fill-The-Boot was a great success for MDA and LA County Firefighters

Day 3 (the final day) saw the "A" shift come through BIG. After the 3 day totals it shows that Saturday the "A" shift brought in the largest amount of donations in a single day. Overall we did another amazing job.

Thank you to those that took their hour or so to help the children and adults MDA supports.

Any questions please let us know.

Again on behalf of those we support through MDA THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR A JOB WELL DONE.  Now lets see what the 2 sites in BN 1 do in July....

TRADITION
MDA FILL THE BOOT!
Los Angeles County Fire Fighters IAFF Local 1014

JUNE 6TH (B Shift), 7TH (C Shift), and 8TH (A Shift)

Watch the 1014 kick-off video below

This weekend marks the begining of a very important event for Local 1014 LA County Firefighters and MDA. Our partnership with MDA is critical. You, our members, work hard for a short period of time over the three scheduled collection days.  We will be out in the public, on street corners using that well known symbol, our firefighter boot, to raise money for children and adults who have been stricken with this horrible life threatening diseases. We stand on the streets in hopes that the members of our communities will find it in their hearts to contribute to help someday find a cure.

To some of our members this hits close to home, they either know someone, have met someone or lost someone to this horrible diseases. This weekend when we are all out there participating in MDA Fill The Boot in our communities Department wide, remember this is for an important firefighter tradition that firefighters have supported for almost 60 years.

See you this weekend. Again thanks for giving of your time, be it on duty or off duty, to help the children and adults that MDA works hard to support.

If you have any questions contact your below listed Battalion Coordinator or your 1014 Executive Board representative.

Thank you for your continuted support.

JUNE 6TH (B Shift), 7TH (C Shift), and 8TH (A Shift)
MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULE

As we get closer to our annual kick off for the Fill The Boot Campaign we wanted to give you some more details. Below you will find a few videos as well as who from your 1014 Executive Board is responsible for which Battalion as your liaison for any questions or issues you may have that your Battalion Coordinators or MDA Representative cannot answer. We will also soon be posting the MDA Battalion Coordinators.

In that past 1014 members have been able to collect some very impressive amounts of money for MDA. We have been close nationwide to raising the most amount. We are asking every member this year to participate for just a short amount of time. If every one of us put in just a small amount of time we can accomplish so much. This is the year 1014 members could raise over $400,000. We have shown, on many occasions and many fronts, what we can do together, lets do that the 6th, 7th and 8th of June to help those that are less fortunate than all of us. let give a little time to help those that the MDA helps. Lets all work together again to show what we as members of the Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014 can do!

Any questions please call your Battalion Coordinator or Director for your Battalion.

Thank you.

TRADITION
MDA FILL THE BOOT!
Los Angeles County Fire Fighters IAFF Local 1014

Supporting MDA for Nearly 60 years

JUNE 6TH (B Shift), 7TH (C Shift), and 8TH (A Shift)
MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULE

Firefighters have been "filling the boot" for nearly 60 years now to help The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in their campaign to fight Muscle Disease.  A Firefighter and Paramedic tradition started in 1954 by a Boston Firefighter to raise funds for a local family who had a child with MDA, and we’ve never looked back.

We just came off a very successful Board of Supervisors and Fire Department campaign to help with the March of Dimes drive to help Babies and congratulations to all who helped.

MDA, Fire Cancer Support Network, March of Dimes, Spark of Love Toy Drive…all “Traditions of Excellence” and service to our communities.  Let’s get ready to clear our drill schedules and clear our mornings from 9am to 1pm on June 6th, 7th and 8th to Fill our Boots and help those in need.  Don’t be the station or the Battalion to post zero or not participate this year.  We have set a goal of $400,000 dollars, a goal we fell $7,000 short of in previous years.  We can do it if we all help and do what we do together, both Off Duty and On Duty as a supplement to help.

Watch for Battalion Coordinators and Executive Board Members along with MDA Representatives to begin Station Visits very soon to coordinate this years’ efforts.  Inspire each other to make time, step up and serve others yet once again…a tradition we know very well.  Will your battalion be the one this year to bring in the largest donations from the citizens of Los Angeles County?

Thank you  advance and watch for more updates on Fill the Boot 2013!

Fill-The-Boot

Last day.....

Below is what our totals are to date. Everyone has done a great job so far. Today, July 26th is our final day for rasing money for the MDA Fill-The-Boot program. Every year our members from Local 1014 do an amazing job. As you can see from the numbers we are on track to again be one of the top producers for people, like Firefighter Shaun Probert and his family (click here to see/hear their unbelievable story), who have been stricken by a disease that will end not just his short life but is also destroying the life his young daughter and with that, the rest of his family.

Your Executive Board is finishing up the business of the I.A.F.F at the biannual convention today. During these last few days we had the privilege of hearing from Firefighter Probert and speaking with him directly. We have told him that the members of Los Angeles County Local 1014 were out working as we speak raising funds for him and his family, as well as all people the MDA help on a daily basis, and we will work hard to help find a cure.

Jul 23, 2012

MDA Fill-The-Boot starts this week

Lets make sure the rest of our country knows how much the members of Los Angeles County 1014 support MDA

On July 24, 25 and 26 we will be out collecting donations for our annual MDA Fill-the Boot Campaign.

WE NEED YOUR HELP VOLUNTEERING (SEE BELOW)

For those that wonder why we do what we do for the MDA.....

Meet Firefighter Shaun Probert.....and his 3 young girls

Dear Members,

On behalf of Local 1014 and the families served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), we would like to thank you for your support of our 9th Annual Los Angeles County Local 1014 Fill the Boot July 24 – 26, 2012. Because of you, Los Angeles County Firefighters have raised over $2,544,000 in the last eight years to provide health care and support services to the families served by MDA.

With our participation in events like Fill the Boot, MDA will continue to fund comprehensive healthcare clinics at renowned facilities like Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and UCLA. In addition, MDA will fund life saving research at USC and Cedars Sinai. Last but not least, your support sends children with neuromuscular disease to MDA summer camp. Each and every one of your efforts will not go unnoticed. As the IAFF’s charity of choice, you are a part of the tradition and commitment to the families who live with muscle disease. Your character and dedication to help those in need is what our profession is.....(more)

Thank you once again for stepping up and supporting the MDA.  Our communities, our residents and the members of Local 1014 can make a difference.  When we are sitting around this week complaining about the weather, our back hurting, we had to stand for hours and wait in line at the amusement park or we are just thinking things are bad...remeber Shaun and his girls and all the children and adults that are affected, one way or another, by these diseases that MDA is working hard to try and cure or at least make peoples life better.

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Thank you,

July 11, 2012

Your character and dedication to help those in need is what our profession is about.

With the Fire Chief and his Executive Staff’s full support, we need all hands on deck to get our grand total over $3,000,000. As in previous years, MDA staff will be conducting station presentations to recruit site coordinators as well as off-duty volunteers. We are asking you to reschedule or put all drills on hold for these presentations and the event. We need active volunteers to give us four hours off duty so that we can continue to make a difference for our MDA family.

Once again, we would like to thank you in advance for your full participation in our Fill the Boot to help raise funds in the fight against muscle disease.  Each year, we participate in many events for the department. This is OUR event and one that is very important to Local 1014 and Firefighters across the county. Let’s work together with MDA staff to make sure it’s a safe and successful event.

If you have you any question please email me at davel@local1014.org

Sincerely,

Dave Lopez, 1st Vice President
LA County Firefighters Local 1014
