Friday Update 4-5-24
Updated On: May 21, 2024

Brothers & Sisters,

This Friday we begin with an exciting announcement that the 25th Annual Fire Department Fish Off has been scheduled for June 25-26!

Proceeds from this event benefit the Quest Burn Foundation, the Grossman Burn Center and the Alisa Ann Ruch Champ Camp.

The event began as a friendly fundraiser between LA County Fire and LA City Fire and has grown to add other Fire departments that want to attend. Local 1014 and Local 112 ( LA City) are the original sponsors of the event and donations have grown exponentially over the 25 years.

All people wanting to fish are welcome to come out and fish, including spouses and kids. It is a family friendly event. Director Cervantes’ kids have fished over 15 years on the trip.

We have dinner before we leave sponsored by LA City Fire and Local 1014, cooked by Long Beach Fire and we have a hosted banquet when we get back as well as a raffle with fishing rods, reels and other swag. With your entry fee you will receive food before we leave and when we return, a shirt and an overnight fishing trips with your brothers and sisters and their families.

The real winners of the event are the burn survivors that we support and donate the money to. As an added bonus, the entire trip is filmed by Anglers Chronicles and broadcasted on TV.

Come on out and help LA County get the trophy back to where it belongs.

Local 1014 continues aggressively moving forward on the signature gathering for our ballot initiative to secure more funding for our Department, including staffing, infrastructure, apparatus, and equipment. We are currently gathering signatures in locations throughout the district.

REMINDER: If you get questions while in the field working or calls at the station, you can confirm there is a citizen's initiative for additional funding for the LA County Fire District. You can also direct them to the website above or any Local 1014 Executive Board member.

If someone approached you in the station asking for firefighters to gather signatures or sign petitions, do not accept. Get their name and ask them to leave the station.

We have a lot of work to do to secure those votes, but together, we can win for the future of our Department and our families. Thank you all in advance for your consideration of our collective efforts.

In Solidarity,

President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
