Brothers & Sisters,
As we set to kick off what will surely be a busy Super Bowl weekend, we want to begin by thanking those of you who are working in stations this weekend. We also want to remind our members at home to please celebrate responsibly.
Dont drink and drive! Lyft, Uber, cab or designated drivers, and public transportation will protect you and your family and protect your job. Get a place to stay and or make arrangements to let time be your friend when drinking alcohol.
OVERTIME CAP LIFTED FROM 90 TO 120
Your Staffing Committee members from Local 1014 have been pushing the elimination of the annual overtime cap, as we believe the cap is arbitrary and limits workers who want to work from working. That being said, we must legally bargain over the item just like the department has to bargain over wages, hours, and working conditions, including all the Manual of Operations policies.
The staffing committee met numerous times with the department to strike and agree to move the OT CAP from 90 to 120 shifts. The department references industrial injuries as a cause for overtime issues and behavioral health issues. While we are collectively working to improve the workers' compensation system and get folks back to work, the fact is that emergency overtime and recalls to duty, swift water staffing, and more account for a big percentage of the SRC also.
Take a look at ET-70 for the changes, and the reality is the ONLY reason for a CAP is a holdover to the annual earnings perception in thought from many many years ago. We also believe that perhaps the MAPP bonus dollars perhaps should also have a CAP if perception is the rule.
One might argue that MAPP goals are already in the job description for positions at the Executive Staff level. We will keep you posted while we continue to work on this and negotiate a permanent removal of the annual CAP. Click here to view EA-71.
