This week, we begin with a shout-out to all our newest LA County Fire Family members of Class 171! Proud parents, siblings, and even second-generation firefighters came together this week as Recruit Class 171 graduated and new boot firefighters hit the streets filling vacancies and joining our team to serve others. Congratulations to all who completed the grueling program to get their badge pinned.
Today, they begin their first assignments as LA County Firefighters. Welcome to the Fire Family! County! Local 1014 Strong!

One-Year Anniversary of the Monterey Park Mass Shooting
This week, we marked the one-year anniversary of the horrific mass shooting in Monterey Park, which left 11 people dead and nearly a dozen injured.
Monterey Park Firefighters, who are all Local 1014 members, LACoFD Members, LA County Sheriffs, and Monterey Park Police members, all responded to this mass incident that day. As we all know, calls like this can have a lasting impact on our firefighters and first responders. This week, our LACOFD Peer Support Team, including our Peer Support Dogs and Chaplains, attended the one-year memorial and vigil in Monterey Park.
It was a night of healing as we remembered the incident together with the community. We are grateful that our Peer Team was there to show support for our brothers and sisters.

| LACOFD Accident in Littlerock
This week, LA County Fire Fighters narrowly avoided a tragedy when two of our brothers were involved in a head on collision with a truck while responding to an incident. Thankfully both men had their seat belts on and airbags worked. Our brothers were injured and received care after being extricated and air lifted by our very own. Thank you to the Dispatchers who got help to them immediately. Peer Support services were started and we are happy to report a positive outcome.
Our prayers for a speedy recovery are with our brothers and their families.
Over 25% of injuries and fatalities to firefighters are on the way to and back from emergency responses. This is a reminder of the dangers of our profession and each and every day as we care for the communities we serve. Stay safe and take care of each other.

| Payroll Banked V-Day Issue
We succeeded in negotiating to secure our extra V-days ​in excess of up to 60 hours if they are unused. This last paycheck was supposed to show a separate pay code for the banked V-day time, but it did not. The separate code was not implemented due to yet another Department failure. The banked V hours were shown in the regular code for V in excess of 60 hours (LV021).
Please remember only our 20+ year employees will be eligible to utilize these extra hours because they accrue more vacation time than employees with less than 20 years.
Please be patient as we work with Payroll and HR to correct the coding and move the hours to their own dedicated line. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the union.
FFT FSA Grievance
Our work continues to make right the FSAs who were hired off the FFT list. Chief Marrone has not only honored the agreements we have negotiated but has been very supportive of our efforts to get this done.
This week, our FSAs began receiving orientation dates and RPP academy dates, and we are on the move to ensure each one of them receives an actual tower date. Congrats to our members who have worked so hard and put in the time in the camps while they waited to take their rightful place in a drill tower. We continue our work on the 10-15 per tower agreement as we seek to codify this to guide our bridge Internal Promotional process we put in place many years ago to ensure a fair and transparent system with reward to those who put in the time and the work. More as we get that done with written and AP portions of the process being refreshed and renewed.

“Stop the Bleed” coming to a fire station near you soon!
During the 2022 legislative session, the state of California passed legislation—Assembly Bill 2260—that requires the installation of trauma bleeding control kits in newly constructed public and private buildings throughout the state. The legislation, “Emergency Response: Trauma Kits,” is the first statewide law of its kind to make bleeding control kits widely accessible in this manner.
In cooperation with the American College of Physicians and Surgeons, Fire Unions, and Departments, these kits will be distributed to fire stations and other public safety locations, designed to train the layperson to stop critical, life-threatening bleeding. All new public buildings and buildings with 200 or more persons shall provide a trauma kit with stop the bleeding tools such as clotting dressings, regular dressings and tourniquets, with the training for laypersons to be able to apply direct pressure, dress and even tourniquet critical bleeding wounds.

This week, Local 1014 continues aggressively moving forward on the signature gathering for our ballot initiative to secure more funding for our Department, including staffing, infrastructure, apparatus, and equipment. We are currently gathering signatures in locations throughout the district. We have over 36,000 signatures already which shows the amount of public support we have for this issue
Reminder: If you get questions while in the field working or calls at the station, you can confirm there is a citizen's initiative for additional funding for the LA County Fire District. You can also direct them to the website above or any Local 1014 Executive Board member or the Department's Executive Staff for more detailed.
We have a lot of work to do to secure those votes, but together, we can win for the future of our Department and our families. Thank you all in advance for your consideration of our collective efforts.
