Friday Update 12-2-22
Updated On: Dec 20, 2022

Brothers and Sisters,

This week we said said our final farewell to Brother Tretsven who faithfully served our Department for 15 years.  Brother Tretsven, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022

Arn was a dedicated servant of the community who loved his job and his family. He is survived by his wife and two sons who are now forever part of our fire family. Please keep them in your prayers today and always.

Our Local 1014 Executive Board  Director Jason Cervantes presented the Medal of Valor and Director Chris Reade presented the 1014 Bible on behalf of the Local 1014 Executive Board and our members.

Thank you to the unsung heroes of the Memorial Management Team, our Pipes and Drums, Honor Guard, our LACoFD Peer Support Team, and our Chaplains.

WE SHALL NEVER FORGET.

EA -547 - NEW SCBA TRAIN-THE-TRAINER CLASSES
Do Not Volunteer for Any Department Projects or Committees Unless Direct Orders in Writing and Call The Union

This week, the Department, yet again, is attempting to subvert our "Work to the Rule" efforts for a fair contract with EA 547. While we support the migration of new SCBA’s and integration into our IAFF FGS program, we cannot continually ask our members to subsidize the Department's work when the CEO is preventing our members from getting the same COLA as the rest of the County workers for funding issues managed by this Department.

As the holiday season is upon us, staffing shortages creating recalls and time away from our families, our fire chief and his team, who are enjoying a fruitful new contract and are fully aware that labor is in a contract dispute which has caused us to work to the rule has the audacity to ask us once again to “volunteer” in assisting them in completing another necessary task that is vital to the operation of the department and the safety of our members.  Management either doesn’t realize or just doesn’t respect the fact that labor is the lifeblood of our organization and when there is true collaboration and respect for us and our roles, we have always found a way to “make things work.”

This is yet another example of poor planning on the executive staff's part and should be viewed as a slap in the face to our members as they try to accomplish the mission solely on labor’s backs. The adage of “take, take, take, never give” has never rung more clearly. If management would stand with us as one Department, we would all give as much as we could to complete all tasks asked of us. Until then, however, we ask all members to continue to Work to the Rule as we engage the Fire Chief on this issue.

We are engaged and working daily with the CEO and BOS and FC to get this contract settled.  All terms are in place, and only year three funding is in dispute. The next three weeks are critical in our talks, as the Department well knows.  We ask you to hold that line, and we are seeking support and collaboration from the Fire Chief on the budget as we look to push hard for BOS support.

Hold The Line. Please contact us if you are pressured or pushed to volunteer to help amd we will handle.

In Solidarity We Work to the Rule,

President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
