Will Pryor in the LACERA Board Elections.

It is important that you vote TWICE – Once for the Board of Investment, Once for the Board of Retirement!
For the last 17 years Local 1014 has endorsed Will Pryor for the LACERA Board. Starting Tuesday July 5th you should be receiving your ballots from the LA County Registrar Recorder. PLEASE open the mail and Vote!

We have managed keep our retirement system in place. In the last 17 years Will has been on the front lines of that battle on a local, state and national level.
Keeping Will on the LACERA Boards is a major goal for Local 1014 in its fight to keep our pensions whole. Please join us in ensuing Will is Re-elected to his 6th term on the LACERA Boards.

On July 4, 1776, the thirteen colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. Each year on July 4th, also known as Independence Day, Americans celebrate this historic event.
Local 1014 Members will be hard at work today as they have been all weekend protecting and serving the citizens of Los Angeles County and other areas of California where we have been called.
We ask you all to say a prayer and keep those who are working today in your thoughts and we look for a safe tour of duty. That tour may be answering the calls in our Dispatch center, at the fire station, inspecting a fireworks show or on the front lines at one of many fires burning somewhere in our state. We ask that you take a moment and think about those who are serving our Country and who have served and be thankful for all we have in our great Country. In particular we have the American Dream of a great job that provides for our families while allowing us to serve others. Los Angeles County Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1014 - "COUNTY!".
For those who are off duty and will take time to celebrate the 4th of July with friends and family, remember to celebrate responsibly. BBQ's will be fired up, and many will be at the river, the mountains, the beach or our own backyard as we keep American Tradition alive and well. If you are going to drink alcohol today, please plan to celebrate responsibly and plan early for success. Set a designated driver, plan not to drive, or get a place to stay. Your job, your life, others lives are precious and you need to protect all. Do the right thing, have a plan.
Take care and have a wonderful Fourth of July!

Stand by for exciting news on this soon.
Here are the links to view our contract's and what's next:
July 4th is a time to enjoy parades, family, friends, BBQ and fireworks. Whether you go to a sponsored fireworks show or have your own celebration remember to use the safe and sane fireworks.
This summer seems to by flying by already. Enjoy the day and the rest of your summer.
We live in the greatest country in the world. We celebrate the 4th of July as the birth of the United States of America.
On July 4th, 1776 the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. This is what established our nation. Our freedom continues to be protected by the men and woman of the United States Military. While you are celebrating our nation please take a moment to reflect on those that are standing a post somewhere to make sure we continue to be a free nation. Remember those that are away from their families this holiday and others, protecting what the Continental Congress envisioned when they drafted the document that our country was founded on. Take a few more minutes to remember those that have given their life to protect our Constitution and keep us safe.
Your 1014 board will be spending our 4th of July either in the station or spending time with our families as well. We wish everyone a happy and safe 4th.
Please remember the busy time of year is now here for us. We have to be ready to answer the call when the phone rings. Be it an overtime, recall or your 1014 board, you have to be ready.
This 4th of July (and every day) to not drink and drive. Drink responsibly. Think before you start. Get a room or use a designated driver. Unfortunately, every holiday we have members that make a poor, life changing decisions. Don't be that person this year.
We would also like to congratulate station 31 on their win at the Bear Classic last weekend. They beat Local 1014 in the finals. Again a great event was put on by Alex and Ruben Ortiz (8A). If you missed it this year we look forward to seeing you next year. It is one of, if not the, best events put on for the members of the LA County Fire Department. Free food provided by 1014, games and events for the kids and an all around fun time for everyone. All proceeds go to our LA County Explorer program.

This Sunday is Fathers Day
Happy Fathers Day!
Fathers' Day: is a celebration that started in 1910 honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Fathers' Day was created to complement Mother's Day, a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood.
Sunday we can take time to let it all go and celebrate "Father's".
Whether it is our sons and daughters celebrating us as fathers, or remembering fathers who have passed, fathers who raised sisters and brothers now on the job, fathers that mentored, encouraged and led us all to take on one of the greatest careers in the world; take time to celebrate all that we have and remember our fathers.
We all have so much to be thankful for and we are proud to be part of one of the greatest "Unions" of men and women who make up the heart and soul of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. We are among the best in the world at what we do, and we work hard to accomplish everything we do as we serve the citizens. Celebrate and remember the different roles fathers have played in who and where we are today as members of this "Union of Firefighters, Paramedics and Fire Personnel". How sweet it is!
Your Local 1014 Executive Board wishes all of the "Father's" a "Happy Father's Day" and as always remember to celebrate responsibly... Be safe and smart whether at work or at home. You all know what that means; we speak to it often... live it. Enjoy your weekend!

MDA Fill The Boot
POSTPONED
Our annual Fill the Boot to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association starting Friday June 10th through Sunday, June 12 has been postponed until a later date in 2016.
The Los Angeles County L1014 Executive Board will be meeting with the MDA leadership staff during next month's board meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 5 to review the logistics for the event and select a new set of dates for this fall. Please know that we did not come to this decision easily, and unfortunately due to limited staffing and preparation, we felt that in order to be successful we needed a longer timeline to execute the objectives of the event.
The MDA Fill the Boot program is a long standing tradition with Firefighters and L1014. Our goal is to raise funds and support the mission, and we greatly appreciate the continued support of our members and department in achieving this goal. We look forward to sharing the new dates with you next month.
In Solidarity,

ELECTION NIGHT YIELDED BIG VICTORIES
FOR LOCAL 1014 MEMBERS
Local 1014 endorsed and supported many candidates and issues in the Tuesday June 7th Primary Election and we were very effective in helping shape the future of the elected officials who have an impact on our membership and our issues.
We used our influence and strength to work hard in National, State and Local Elections to get results that landed 100% of our candidates and issues in the win column!
No races were more important than elections for our County Board of Supervisors and Mark Ridley Thomas, who we worked so hard to help put in office ran unopposed and secured another term in office.
|
We endorsed Janice Hahn to replace Don Knabe in the 4th District and she won handily but will be in a runoff in the November General Election. We also endorsed Kathryn Barger to replace Mike Antonovich in the 5th District and she also won handily and will be in a runoff election in November. |
|
We have much to do to finish the job in November, but our efforts and influence in these two races were key to the victories. We partnered with our Sheriff's Deputies from ALADS to run a campaign for Kathryn Barger and we thank them for their alliance with us. It should be noted that their Supervisors Union PPOA did not endorse and stayed out of the race, which put the burden of the effort on ALADS and PPOA. We hope to have them on board for the General Election.
 |
Kamala Harris, our statewide endorsed candidate for US Senator won with a large margin, and will be in the General Election against Loretta Sanchez. We will help lead the way to her victory in November. We also won in every state election with all candidates either winning outright in the primary or making it into the runoff in November. We partnered with our CPF brothers and Sisters in most state races. |
We also endorsed Carson City Measure C, a User Utility Tax extension to continue the revenue and the measure passed by a large margin. We supported Santa Clarita Community College District Measure E, to upgrade College of the Canyons Classrooms and facilities and it passed with a large margin as well. We opposed Pomona Measure Y, a digital signsiInitiative which had no provisions for monies to go to fire, but rather only to police as well as the deal was a bad deal for Pomona. This measure failed by a large margin.
To see the complete Los Angeles County results CLICK HERE.
Thank you to all Local 1014 Members for your continued support and our solidarity to be able to have such a powerful impact on the political action and legislation affecting our wages, hours and working conditions. We will keep you updated on the next phases of our work to ensure our endorsed candidates come out on top in the General Election in November.

June 7, 2016 Local 1014 Primary Election Endorsements
The June 7, 2016 Primary Election is Around the Corner in California and we would like to share Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Local 1014 Recommendations and Endorsements for the Elections. The most important elections we are working on are the County Board of Supervisors Races, District 4 and 5. These two races will replace Supervisors Mike Antonovich (District 5) and Don Knabe (District 4). These two positions will add to the firefighter friendly structure of the Board of Supervisors. We are involved in a very heavy Firefighter and Sheriff Union alliance to help elect Kathryn Barger in the 5th. You will see our television commercials, hear our radio adds, see us on social media and receive our print mail if you live or work in District 5. We are also heavily invested in helping Janice Hahn to win in the 4th as well.
Local 1014 and the IAFF and the CPF have considered Fire Fighter Union Issues and made the following recommendations and endorsements for this Primary Election and we respectfully ask for you to consider your paycheck items and the votes needed to protect our profession as you make your selections.
