Friday Update 12-19-25
Posted On: Jan 04, 2026

Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you to all our members who attended Tuesday’s union meeting. We had a productive meeting focused on our major initiatives, including binding arbitration. We also had a great roundtable discussion about the use of Measure E funds and how they will be implemented in the future to help our members better serve the public.

Thank you to Deputy Fire Chief Eleni Pappas and Community Services Liaison Rosemary Vivero for sharing a plan to increase outreach to Pomona communities so residents know they have the best fire service in the world. We also discussed adding resources in Pomona—including AP units, engines, and squads—to better support current call volumes.

Thank you to Pomona Councilmember Debra Martin, who shared the work she and our union board have done to ensure the citizens of Pomona understand how valuable LA County Fire is to our communities.

Finally, thank you to Calvary Chapel Pomona Valley for hosting us.

Thank You for Attending the RMT Webinar

Thank you to everyone who joined our recent Retiree Medical Trust (RMT) webinar. Your participation, thoughtful questions, and engagement helped make the session a success. It reinforced how important it is that Plan C members hired after July 1,2014 have clear, reliable information about this protected, union-designed benefit.

The RMT is an important long-term resource for Plan C employees, especially in the years before Medicare eligibility. Our goal was to break down how the RMT works, what contributions mean, and how eligible members can access reimbursements in retirement once vested. We also appreciated the opportunity to address common questions and share next steps and available support.

A sincere thank you to our panelists and partners for sharing their time and expertise: CAPE’s Carmen Lopez and Jarard Kings, BPA/Benefits Administrators’ Alison Stasch, and Wagner Law’s Alexander Olsen.

If you weren’t able to attend live, we’ll continue sharing resources and updates as they become available. Our commitment is to ensure members have the information they need to feel confident about their benefits—now and in the future.

For more information, please visit the dedicated RMT website. We’ll also distribute a webinar Q&A next week based on member questions from the session—so stay tuned as this new retirement benefit rolls out.

IAFF General Secretary-Treasurer Frank Lima, UFLAC 112 Brother Frank Lima, and the IAFF were honored at the Annual United Farm Workers Gala. The IAFF proudly stands in solidarity with our farmworkers—men and women who have so little, yet give so much, and who deserve safer conditions, dignity, and fair treatment on the job.

Our farmworker brothers and sisters have always stood with firefighters in our fights for our members. We will continue to stand with them. Relationships matter. Doing what’s right matters. IAFF Local 1014 Strong!
