MEMBER SUPPORT FOR FRINGE BENEFITS CONTRACT HELPS MOVE THE TABLE!
Thank you to the Local 1014 members who took the time to join your Local 1014 Executive Board and members from the Coalition of County Unions (CCU). We showed force and solidarity with over 350 members as we convergedoard of Supervisors Meeting to make our voices on the County B heard.
The day was a busy one for the BOS, and our unscheduled appearance on the meeting got their attention as we silently took over every seat in the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration and occupied the meeting space as the meeting began. As the tension was palpable and in solidarity, the CCU stood and quietly and powerfully exited the building. You could have heard a pin drop as members of Local 1014, ALADS, LACOLA, PPOA, CAPE, SEIU, Teamsters, Building Trades, Interns and Residents, Deputy District Attorneys exited the building to then talk to the press and carry our message of hard work and dedication to the people we serve, and our demand for a fair contract and bargaining that is serious for the times to support the workers.
Our members showed up with kids and dogs in hand and helped their Union leaders put pressure on our elected leaders and mostly on the CEO in charge of getting the Fringe Benefits Contract Settled. The CCU Fringe Benefits Contract includes our benefits, including retirement, medical, dental, and vision contributions to premium. We are working to get as much support as possible to keep our benefits in pocket and protected as well as expand the Union Health Plans. We met with the County to bargain the very next day and we are pleased to report we had substantial progress and movement towards a fair contract we can support.
We are not done yet and will be back at the bargaining table next week for fringe benefits, and salary tables will begin to work again shortly after fringe settles if, in fact, we do. We may need our members again when we work to close our Salary Contract, as we have items that may need a push from all of us to get done, and we will not close without them. Plan C Members are in our lights and in our efforts more than ever and know that we all fight together for today and for a future to increase and protect our contract for all. Nice work Local 1014 family! Together we win!

PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER APPRECIATION WRAPS UP WITH AN AMAZING DEPARTMENT AND UNION RECOGNITION OF OUR VERY OWN!
Thank you to our Local 1014 Public Safety Dispatchers at LAO who handle the front end our our emergencies and our “not so emergencies”. Our Local 1014 Dispatchers are some of the best in the business and handle a call volume and intensity like no other Department in the world. Think back to all of our major disasters and emergencies like the Woolsey, Palisades, Eaton, and Lake Hughs Fires as of late and the work done on the other end of the phone with people literally in harm's way as we respond. The calm and professional manner with which our dispatchers and call takers handle those incidents is quite frankly amazing. Anyone who has done a “sit along” knows the stress and pressure they deal with, and our thanks go out to you during this national recognition.
In addition to working the dispatch center, our Local 1014 Public Safety Dispatchers have been an integral part of the Union's work to craft the future of the profession with the crafting of the Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) program akin to EMT for front-line call work with the public. The Union worked with our dispatchers to craft the program, pass legislation to make it the standard, and, of course, worked to value that training and education with an appropriate bonus.
We are currently working to add Public Safety Dispatchers to the Post-Traumatic Stress Presumption Law. The Governor recognized our efforts and made the Public Safety Dispatchers the only group in consideration to be included with Public Safety Members in Fire. Our very own Cerena Lewis continues to represent her profession and our Local 1014 Dispatchers with her experience and her voice in Sacramento.
Thank you to Sister Lewis for joining the Commission on Health and Safety with California Professional Firefighters and Local 1014 to give testimony on issues and policies relevant to our dispatchers in the crafting of legislation and policy at the state level. The Commission is a State Commission on Health and Safety and Workers Compensation, members appointed by the Governor and Sister Lewis took front and center to bring our Local 1014, LA County Dispatcher perspective. Strong work, sister Cerena Lewis and all our Local 1014 public safety dispatchers.

Back in January, our members were supposed to receive an additional Holiday Day for the passingsident of the United States of America, of the 39th pre Jimmy Carter. The ET below outlines who should have received this additional Holiday Time.
Local 1014 recognized back in January that not all members received their Holiday time as outlined in ET-9. We worked with the department over the last few months to determine where the error occurred and have remedied the under accrual of the holiday time. Everyone should be made whole at this point. Please check your paychecks to ensure we did truly capture all personnel who were owed holiday.
Once again, your union will continue to fight the battles for you behind closed doors and get victories. Be prepared as soon we will call upon you to help us take some of your next fights to the streets. If we call for help it’s with purpose. Thank you for all the hard work our members do! |

Thanks to the leadership of Los Angeles County Fourth District Supervisor Janice Hahn and the City of Huntington Park, along with the combined efforts of the Los Angeles County Internal Services Department and the LACoFD Construction and Maintenance Division, the rebuilding of Fire Station 164 has been completed.
We were proud to celebrate the dedication with dignitaries, colleagues, and friends to welcome our firefighters back to their fire station, known as the “The Big House.” |

POMONA NEGOTIATIONS UNDERWAY FOR CONTRACT FOR SERVICES
You have by now seen the EA from Chief Marrone indicating we have notified the City of Pomona of our intent to vacate providing services for the city with one year's notice as is required by the contract. This is not the first time we have served notice to a city, Pomona specifically as the Fire Chief negotiates with the City Manager for a successor agreement.
Pomona is a “FEE FOR SERVICE CITY” which means simply, they pay a FEE for the Service we Provide and it is renewed annually or more with a contract. The contracts provide for a soft 4.5% increase, and negotiations occur to land where it needs to land for cost increases, and cost share with the “District” and surrounding cities are factored into the final cost and agreement. The Fire Chief is responsible for negotiating those cost increases, and Chief Marrone inherited a gap in responsible increases for cost over the last 5 years prior to his term. We are playing catch up now, and the current cost increases with inflation are also in play. The leverage applied by serving notice is part of the process at times, and the Union, as always, has the tools of the trade in political action, public communication and business and citizen partnerships to help support the Fire Chief’s work.
We are actively engaged in all of the above and will work side by side with the Fire Chief as we work to resolve this dilemma. We look forward to a resolution as the hard work both by management and labor is in full swing with a one-year time clock to get it done.

On the morning of April 4th, Brother Romero’s home was hit by lightning. Shortly after, his wife smelled smoke and called 911. After arriving, the fire department wasn’t able to find the source of the smoke. Later that evening, he received a call that no firefighter ever wants to get; it was from his wife telling him that his home was on fire.
By the grace of God, she was able to get his children out along with the animals. Unfortunately, the fire destroyed the entire home and now they are left to pick up the pieces.

Today, we close the message with our Brother Landyn Bailey's (Engineer FS65 “B”) heartfelt plea for help in finding a life-saving kidney donor for his brother Gavyn M. Bailey. Gavyn was born in kidney failure and received a transplant at the age of three.
That gift of life gave him many years of improved health, but unfortunately, his transplanted kidney has failed. He is currently sustaining life through 16 hours of dialysis each day, but this is only a temporary solution. We are searching for a direct donor match.
To qualify, donors must:
- Have O+ blood type
- Be under the age of 40
- Be willing to donate through Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ or UCLA Medical Center Testing through UCLA.
If you or someone you know is willing to be tested as a potential donor, please consider this incredible act of generosity.
On the application, please indicate that you are interested in being a remote donor for Gavyn M. Bailey (DOB: 5/29/98) at Mayo Clinic Phoenix, AZ.
Your selfless gift could offer Gavyn a second chance at life. We are deeply grateful for your support, whether through donation, spreading the word, or keeping Gavyn in your thoughts and prayers. If you have any questions, you can contact Landyn directly at (949) 422-7068.

|
A GoFundMe has also been set up to help cover medical expenses and provide financial stability. 100% of donations will be going directly to Gavyn. |
