Happy Thanksgiving
Posted On: Dec 23, 2024

Brothers and Sisters,
On behalf of your Local 1014 Executive Board, the Local 1014 Health and Welfare Trustees, and our Local 1014 Staff, we would like to wish you a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

B Shift has the call this year, and to all our members putting in the hours this weekend, may you have a safe and fun shift with your “Firehouse Family.”  It has been a long-standing tradition for those working the holidays to bring our families and friends to the firehouse to get a little taste of our work and home away from home and give us the love we need while serving our communities.

This Thanksgiving, take a moment to look around you at your crew to appreciate all you have in common and learn about and appreciate your differences.  Together in solidarity, we are all stronger and more united in all we must do, serving the public and helping each other through the rough spots in our job.

We all have much to be thankful for this year and every year, and please also remember those less fortunate and remember our fire families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice and are no longer with us.  Reach out to them and make a call or a FaceTime to connect a reminder to them that  “WE SHALL NEVER FORGET.”

Holidays can be difficult for many of us, especially as we see calls go up and are away from our families. Remember for those who need support and feel the need to talk with someone, please reach out to our Peer Support Team. You can also find more resources at HealingOurOwn.org

On behalf of the dedicated members of the Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and send special thoughts and prayers to those serving in our military abroad and to those serving in our Fire Stations this holiday.

On behalf of the membership, thank you to the Elections Committee for their hard work. Local 1014 Elections were conducted in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws of IAFF Local1014 by California Elections Company.

I am honored to be elected to serve for another term as President of this great union. We welcome back all our incumbent Officers and Directors and new Directors. This “team of ten” individuals represent the diversity of our membership and I am confident we will continue to push forward fighting for better wages, hours and working conditions for all our members over the next two years.

Your Local 1014 Executive Board will continue to address the issues affecting staffing, entry-level hiring, promotions and retirements with a push to fill spots and provide relief for recalls.  As we begin to enter negotiations with the County for a successor MOU we will be fighting for every dollar and we will not leave money on the table.

Local 1014 is one of the strongest most influential labor unions in the nation and with our newly elected Executive Board, we will continue to fight on behalf of our members. Thank you to all and let us move forward 1014 Strong!

It is with a sad heart that the Los Angeles County Firefighter’s Benefit & Welfare is asking for support for the family of Firefighter James O Taylor. James was taken from us on Wednesday, November 13th at the age of 56. James was the sole support for his family. We ask that you look into your hearts and give support to this Firefighter’s family.

If you find yourself struggling, please reach out to one of our trained Peer Support Team Members. Please click the Peer Support Team Roster, which includes your colleagues in the LACoFD who will maintain your confidentiality and provide you with support during difficult times.

The Local 1014 / LACoFD Behavioral Health and Peer Support Programs are here for our members and families, and we are ready to assist with free services that are 100% confidential and supported by both specialized Mental Health Professionals and highly-trained Peer Support Team Members (many of whom have been through the same issues that you may be experiencing right now). YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

In Solidarity,

President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
