Froday Update 11-1-24
Posted On: Nov 23, 2024

Brothers and Sisters,
This week, we begin with a big congratulations to our own LA Dodgers on their 8th World Series title and the second title in five years.

Today -- the day the late Fernando Valenzuela, who died last week, would have celebrated his 64th birthday -- our members joined fans from across Los Angeles for a parade in Downtown LA. Celebrating this win and the historic legacy of the Dodgers in unifying this city was the best way to honor Valenzuela.

It was a great day in Los Angeles and an incredible few weeks of showing support for the baseball team that has shown our Department, our members, and firefighters across Los Angeles unwavering support.

GO DODGERS!

VOTE NOVEMBER 5TH - YES ON MEASURE E!

We only have 3 days left until the November 2024 election on Tuesday, November 5. First and foremost, your Union is encouraging you to exercise your right and VOTE!

We are asking that ALL LOCAL 1014 MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES VOTE YES FOR MEASURE E! Encourage your neighbors and your family and friends to vote YES on this critically important measure.

Measure E will be the first additional revenue measure for our Department in 30 years and will bring an additional $152 million annually for stations, equipment, and staffing.

Unlike other County departments, we cannot use general fund money. We need to ensure our Department has a stable and adequate funding source for our needs as we project continued growth over the next 20 years in population and call loads.

This money is critical for the health of our department and, most importantly, for the future of our members and their families. This will fund working condition items like 4-person staffing, upgraded engines, and equipment and help with long-term solutions to our staffing and infrastructure issues.

Encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to vote YES for Measure E! Vote for the future of your Fire Department, vote for your future.

As we have said before, this is the largest citizen initiative and political action campaign in the Union's 70-year history. We have secured bipartisan support from elected officials, the Los Angeles Times and the business community. This has been a long road to get us to this day.

Your Union is 100% committed to ensuring that we have the resources to allow our members to protect the public and stay safe and healthy while doing our jobs. This funding will provide much needed additional resources for our Department and help us to realize the goal of 4-person staffing and meet the national standard.

As we come up to Election Day, please remember that your voice, the voice of our membership and your personal stories of recalls, lack of equipment and the physical and mental stresses of the job are what matter most when people are making their decision to fund this measure. Please stand in solidarity to fight for this funding for our future.
