Brothers and Sisters,
CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS TIME!
Local 1014 prepares for the opening of the table for both Salary Contracts and the Fringe Contract with the Coalition of County Unions. Public Safety is first up, with the Sheriffs, Lifeguards, and Firefighters contracts expiring at the end of December.
The General Member Union Members, including our own, follow shortly after with ALL UNIONS with the CCU and SEIU 732 opening on the Fringe Benefits Contract MOU affecting our retirement, health care benefits, dental and vision, and other issues, like trying to add 401k and contributions for post-PEPRA Plan C members through a retiree medical trust that retiree health we have established.
Local 1014 will ally with other Public Safety Unions for issues in common. The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is settled by all Unions pushing together to move the COLA to the highest place we can with Big County.
We have a robust initial proposal with COLA and Longevity in Rank for all positions, other specialty bonus items and parity items for Plan C as we work to take a large list of items and narrow it down to items that can be funded and landed. We will be reaching out to focus groups of our units for additional ideas and items, as well as costing out our proposal items and working to get comparisons for all units and work.
Stay tuned as we get rolling. This will prove to be another challenging bargaining time, with budget and inflation going head to head in our talks and at our tables. |

HELPING OUR LA COUNTY FIRE FAMILY
This week, we also have two important fundraisers, both of which benefit our Fire Family out of Station 93, which has been hit hard this year. Let’s band together and support, share and donate for both below.
Fundraiser for Andrew Pontious- Southern Collective Spirit
The Southern Collective Spirit Company introduced the Andrew Pontious Charity Bottles collection, a heartfelt initiative. This exclusive collection honors the memory of Andrew Pontious, our brother who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on June 14th, 2024.
The collection features three distinct bottle offerings, each crafted with care and dedication. What's more, all proceeds from sales will go directly to supporting the Pontious family. This tribute collection not only celebrates community spirit but also makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those who mattered most to Andrew.

Support Brother Roberto and His Family
Dustin Roberto, our beloved brother, husband to Mariah, and soon to be father to his baby boy in December, was diagnosed with Stage 4 multi-system Neuroendocrine Cellular Cancer in late June. The cancer started in his stomach and has aggressively metastasized to his liver, lungs, and neck.
Dustin was an LA County Explorer (Post 6) from 2010-2013. After graduating high school, Dustin was hired by AMR and worked in the Santa Clarita Region. In 2016, Dustin was hired by West Metro Fire & Rescue. Additionally, he was a proud member of IAFF Local 1309 for 4 years before being hired by the Los Angeles County FD in June of 2020 where he has selflessly served the citizens of East Palmdale out of Fire Station 93 as a Fireman/Medic.
Dustin, 34 years old, lives with his wife Mariah who is pregnant with their first child, a baby boy. Dustin and Mariah recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary together. Currently, Dustin is undergoing aggressive chemotherapy through the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale and receiving palliative care at his home in Goodyear.
Every donation and share helps spread the word.

CALIFORNIA BURNS EARLY
The Park Fire is now the 6th largest wildfire in California history. Strike Team 1120 A and IMT Team Members are hard at work with other Strike Teams and Local agencies just north of Sacramento.
The wildfire season is upon us early and in our own LRA we have had many small grass A and grass B responses daily and the occasion brush which LA County and Joint region agencies have made short order of. Our Air Force, Wildland, Crew and Type 1 and 3 immersion resources can be credited for quick and effective response to get these local fires in check and under control fairly early. We need reserve apparatus to backfill the Strike Teams to send throughout the state and the department and shops are being tested to solve some problems to get mechanics and staff needed to get our rigs out of the shops and back in the field.
Please keep our members who are out on the Park Fire in your thoughts as we continue to navigate a wildfire season just getting under way.

SUICIDE PREVENTION AND AWARENESS
In our ongoing work to educate and train Union leaders and general members about the rigors of the impact of our job on our minds, and the work to recognize signs and symptoms of such impact and what to do about it, the IAFF hosted a round table on this subject. We invite you to take a look and also remember to seek help for yourself or others with the many resources we have in place. |
