Many in our local, department as well as surrounding agencies have expressed a desire to attend the services for the Granite Mountain Hotshots, including Kevin Woyjeck in Arizona. Prescott is a relatively small area and has been impacted by this tragic loss, the planning process to honor their brother firefighters as well as continuing to manage the Yarnel Hill Fire. As you can imagine all area hotels are completely sold out Flights in and out of Prescott are very limited. To assist our fire department members, both current and retired, as well as other agencies, 1014 along with the Department's Memorial Management Team, and our Department are arranging for chartered buses to transport off-duty personnel to Prescott the day of the service.
While the logistics and final details are still being worked out with the bus company more information will be forthcoming. One thing we do know for sure is departure time will be early with a late return. Departure point will be LA Headquarters Training Center. Cost will be forty dollars ($40) per person roundtrip.
You can respond to info@local1014.org with your name, cell phone number, work location/shift as well as if an outside agency other than LA County Fire. If you agree to attend you will be responsible for the fee.
The estimated cut-off time for sign-ups will be Monday morning July 8th at 0900. Station captains, please notify off duty personnel (especially A-shift) of this opportunity.
We ask that you only sign up if you truly plan on attending. This will be the only site for sign ups.
Please plan on car pooling to LA to ease parking on the grinder if possible.
