Friday July 6, 2012
Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014 and the Los Angeles County Coalition of Unions (CCU) has reached an agreement with the County to extend our fringe benefit contract until September 30, 2013.
This agreement will protect all fringe benefit items such as retirement, health care and benefit time for another year.
Similar to last years contract extension the CCU will receive a 7.2% increase in active employee health care. In exchange the County will limit Horizons 457 plan contributions to 112 million dollars through June 2013, half of the normal contribution to Horizons. All other leave benefits, insurances and retirement benefits guaranteed in the CCU contract will remain untouched.
While Local 1014 would prefer to keep the full 457 match, it is important to us that the health care contribution by the County keeps up with plan increases rather than have to battle for these increases later. We feel confident the 7.2% increase will be enough to cover the Local 1014 Health and Welfare plan for the 2012-2013 year, as a result our members will suffer no losses of salary in addition to our benefit guarantees.
This agreement must still be ratified by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
