Local 1014 Memorial Weekend 2011 - "Remember Responsibly"
Updated On: May 28, 2011

“We Shall Not Forget”  Soldiers and Servants “Remember Responsibly”

Our membership along with all of America will take time this weekend to remember those who have served in the armed services to provide and protect our way of life.

There is a natural connection between those who serve in the military and those who serve in the fire service.  We have members both active and retired, who have served in the military, and everyone has a family member or a close friend who has served or is currently serving our Country.

“We shall not forget” became our cry after the events of 911, and we shall not.  We shall not forget all those who serve both here and abroad, in the military and the fire service, who have sacrificed all so we can enjoy so much.

We live in the greatest country in the world, and for Los Angeles County Fire Fighters, Local 1014 Members, we are even more fortunate than most.  We are so not only through our hard work as a professional firefighter union, and because of what we do, but also as a result of those who sacrificed to provide an America where we have rights to bargain, negotiate and ultimately legislate that which we earn.

We also know we enjoy freedoms for ourselves and our families unlike those in any other country in the world and we are grateful for the hard work of the people who have served and we remember their sacrifices both past and present.

While we take time to remember in traditional manners such as services and ceremonies, mini vacations to the river and the beaches and barbeques in our own backyards…please “Remember Responsibly”.

If you will be consuming beverages with alcohol, use moderation and don’t drink and drive cars or boats this holiday.  GET A RIDE, GET A DRIVER or GET A ROOM!

There will be extra CHP vehicle checkpoints on all routes to the beaches and the river this weekend to keep us all safer so don’t test the waters; you could put your job and your families security in jeopardy…fact.  Not to mention it is the right thing to do and we should be setting the example for others and not put lives in harms way.
