Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays !!!

As we head into the true end of the year and the Christmas Season is in full swing hopefully most of us are fortunate enough to be enjoying family and friends.  Whether you are working with your extended family, or off duty and with those you love most, we encourage all to take a moment and give thanks and reflect on how blessed we are in some way as a result of being part of the Los Angeles County Fire Department Family, and part of Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Local 1014.

You often hear what a great Department we work for and how wonderful it is to work for Los Angles County Fire Department. No argument here!  We are the best Department in the world; but take a moment to think why that is.  It is not because of a building on a hill, a corporate management think tank, luck or magic.  We are great because of the people who put in the time and sweat to do the work each and every day.

Whether you are civilian or sworn, firefighter, paramedic, dispatcher, forestry, camps, heavy equipment, health haz-mat, prevention, lifeguard…front line or logistical support…you are a member of a group of people who put the heart and soul into the County Bear and the County Spirit that has served our citizens so well.

Local 1014 has protected and bargained for the majority of the people serving in all of those areas and we are proud to remember that the political action, the legislation, the community service events, and the solidarity and strength of our Union represents so many members and their families. That is what it is all about at the end of the day, our Los Angeles County Fire Fighters’ Family.

Whether you are man or woman, black, brown or white, democrat or republican, liberal or conservative, or like most…just a moderate blue collar firefighting mutt, you are a special part of our family and as we give thanks for how well we are doing, let us also remember those who will not be as fortunate.  Statewide and nationally, some firefighters are losing their jobs, their pay, their benefits, their staffing, their homes and more.

Remember the less fortunate we serve, remember the tax paying citizens who pay our way, and remember the two Chicago Firefighters who perished in a building fire on the 23rd, and all other fallen firefighters from our past to include our very own who didn’t make it back from their last alarm to include Ted Hall and Arnie Quinones in our multiple LODD.  Remember their families. Remember their friends.

It is the people who serve that make our Department so great, and Local 1014 is so proud to represent those members and their families and we give thanks for the team we serve…we are front line Union Leaders that serve each and every day with the membership.  Take care, be safe and take a moment…

Celebrate Responsibly! Don’t Drink and Drive!
