Inglewood City Council
Approves Fire Station 172
CLOSURE!
|
 |
On Tuesday 11/30/2010 at 2340 hours the Inglewood City Council voted 3-1 to approve an amendment to their contract with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. This will result in the temporary closure of Fire Station 172 for up to three years starting on January 1st, 2011. All of our member’s bids and transfer rights will be protected and honored.
Your Local 1014 Executive Board is working with the Fire Department and the City of Inglewood to find any financial solutions available to get Fire Station 172 open again as soon as possible, including temporary solutions such as applying for SAFER GRANT funding through the Federal Government, as we did in the City of El Monte to get Fire Station 167 re-opened. This funding will re-open Fire Station 172 for up to three (3) years and put it outside the window of the “Financial Crisis” that the City of Inglewood is now in.
We will also look for permanent solutions, such as setting up a property tax pass through or shift of Redevelopment Funds. This revenue would go directly to the Fire District to pay for fire protection services. Any and all financial avenues and remedies will and are being explored to correct this situation and prevent it from happening again in the future.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact a member of your union board (310) 639-1014 or info@local1014.org.
