Jerry Brown Wins California's Governor Race
California's front line firefighters and their families will have a new ally in the governor's office: Jerry Brown.
Brown was elected California's 39th governor Tuesday night, with a 53-41 victory over former eBay CEO Meg Whitman who spent a record $140 million on her campaign.
Brown was endorsed by California Professional Firefighters for his record of standing up for California's firefighters for over four decades. During his first two terms as California's governor from 1975 to 1983, he signed the nation's first firefighter cancer presumption law, gave state and local firefighters collective bargaining rights and brought front line firefighters right into his administration.
"The people of California have spoken. This is a big victory for first responders and working families across our state," said CPF President Lou Paulson. "Thank you to all of our members who made the calls, participated in the precinct walks and did their part to support the campaign. We couldn't have done it without you."
