Local 1014 and all of our partners at the CCU worked tirelessly the last few days to bring about a contract deal that has been in the works for weeks now…
With possible county funding cuts, proposed cuts in pension benefits and the looming uncertainty of the state budget our team has a monumental task in trying to secure a viable contract.
Local 1014 Fringe Benefits Negotiating Team Members Will Pryor, Dave Lopez and Lew Currier worked alongside our coalition partners to help seal the deal on a tentative agreement with the County that provides contract protections for our fringe benefits through the end of 2012.
“Protecting our pension and healthcare is extremely important given the latest round of pension attacks. These attacks are coming by way of legislation and most recently the Board of Supervisors motion to direct the County bargaining team to try and reduce public safety member benefits like the single highest year, increase contributions, and raising minimum retirement age.” Said Local 1014 1st VP and CCU Negotiations Chair Dave Lopez.
In plain language, the County’s matching contribution to our Horizons Deferred Compensation Plan will be temporarily reduced from 4% to 2% for the current fiscal year and the next fiscal year. In exchange, the County will extend our Fringe Contract protecting our benefits including pension protection and increase our Choices contributions by 7.2% for 2011 and an additional 7.2% for 2012 Calendar years.
CCU Negotiations Team Member Will Pryor said, “Thanks to the hard work of the bargaining team and the President’s of the affected Locals walking the floors at the Board of Supervisors, we can be assured our pensions are now protected within contract, and we have secured medical and dental premium offsets as increased contributions from the County.”
The County also offered to try and settle Salary / Unit Contracts with a contract extension as well, and Salary Bargaining Team Chairman Dave Lopez and the team of John Smolin, Will Pryor are working on that as we write this update for the membership.
Additional information will be available from the CCU and we will get that out to the members very soon.
Thank you to all for your support and we can rest a short spell with regard to our pensions…but we must be vigilant at all times…Great Work by All!
