Local 1014 Membership Votes to Protect Our Future!
Local 1014 members voted overwhelmingly to approve the new 1.33% of Top Step FF Dues Structure. California Elections Company (CEC) and the Local 1014 Elections Committee tallied the ballots today and the results were as follows:
TOTAL BALLOTS 1769 100%
APPROVE 1227 69.4%
NOT APPROVE 541 30.6%
This is one of the highest returns on balloting ever, and clearly above 2/3rds of ballots returned, a benchmark not required but sought after to communicate a strong message about our resolve to fight and continue to shape our future.
Your Executive Board is extremely proud and appreciative of our membership for recognition and support of a long term commitment to protect our profession. This vote affirms the strength of our membership to fight to protect what we have now, and battle well into the future to safeguard and advance our issues.
Your Executive Board will continue to hold controllable costs down, work from a budget, and appropriately and responsibly fund the battles ahead to protect our wages, benefits, healthcare, and working conditions.
With things heating up in Pomona, El Monte and other Contract Cities, State Constitutional, Assembly and Senate contests, State Initiatives and Legislative Issues attacking our Pensions, Contract Negotiations in December, Supplemental Cap Initiative for Prop E Special Tax, and two County Board of Supervisors Seats up in 2014, it is plain to see we will be plenty busy as soon as the dust settles.
Once again, we have shown Fire Department Management, Elected Officials, and other Fire and Non Fire Unions that we unite to ensure the Minority Voice is heard loud and clear, and that the Majority Vote rules the day. There are many others besides our membership watching us at all times, and today they can once again remember to Respect Us or Fear Us…either way, they will have to work with us. This is because our Local Union has always been and will continue to be one of the strongest and most effective Fire Labor Unions in the Nation…Los Angeles County Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1014.
We thank the Elections Committee members; Brain Askari, Mark Bartholomew, and Paul Schneider for their hard work, and we thank the membership for standing tall and taking the necessary step to protect our future. Let us all move forward with solidarity and purpose to keep this job the best in town, bar none.
Fraternally,
President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
