CONTRACT EXTENSION SIGNED February 17, 2009
To: All 1014 members:
For the past months while the County, State and Nation have been wrestling with grave economic issues, Local 1014 and the other LA County safety unions have been working hard behind the scenes exploring contract talks. Separately and together, the safety unions have reviewed and analyzed budgets and economic indicators and met with top level Department and County management. We have now all come to the same conclusion that under the current economy there is no sensible reason to open up our contracts.
On February 12, 2009, Local 1014 and Los Angeles County agreed to a 1-year contract extension with Los Angeles County that takes us through December 31, 2009. This extension protects our pay and all other existing MOU provisions, including our uniform allowance, Fit For Life Bonus with the Interim Agreement Standards in Place, grievance procedures, benefit time sell back provisions, and Bids and Transfers.
All of the other Los Angeles County safety unions, including the sheriffs, probation officers, and lifeguards, have also signed a 1-year extension. Fringe benefit negotiations are scheduled to begin this summer.
With this contract extension, Local 1014 will continue to address procedural issues within the framework of our current contract.
