LOCAL 1014 WISHES YOU AND YOURS A

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

On behalf of the entire Executive Board…Happy New Year to our membership and their families.  Hopefully all of you have been enjoying the Christmas Season and spending some time with your loved ones.  For those who have been working, have a safe tour and thank you for manning the front lines through the holiday.

As we prepare to end 2008, and head into 2009, we must first and foremost take the opportunity to remind our membership and their families to be very careful and ring in the New Year responsibly.

BE COOL!  YOUR JOB DEPENDS ON IT!

This can be a dangerous time on the roads and we have seen nothing but tragedy and heartache hit our members when alcohol and driving are mixed.  If you are going to drink or party hard tonight and through the weekend, remember…DON’T DRIVE!  GET A CAB, GET A ROOM, GET A RIDE FROM A DESIGNATED DRIVER!  IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO…

One DUI could cost you thousands of dollars (15 thousand plus), your job for a year, and even greater human costs…so don’t do it.  It is time we start to change our behavior, plain and simple…make this the year you just do it.

By now everyone has received their 1014 Calendars and we are set to plan out 2009.  Our contract expires tonight at midnight as well, and we will continue to work under a month contract extension until we bargain a successor agreement or permanent extension.

We have made no formal proposals to the County, nor have they made any to us at this point. Given the State, Local, and National economic uncertainties, more accurate financial information is needed and will be forthcoming in January as a result of property tax collection from December.  We will keep you informed and hope this helps to keep any rumors to a low roar.

2009 and 2010 will be very challenging once again.  It appears there is no end in sight to the work we must do as a Union to protect our pay and benefits and our working conditions.  The times are heavy, but I am confident that with the hard work of the Executive Board and the support of the membership…there is nothing we can’t do.

Be safe and be good to each other…

Dave Gillotte

President
