This week our Local 1014 City Political Action Committee (PAC) conducted interviews for over 75 candidates from 17 of our 60 local cities that currently have elections including candidates from Artesia, Bell, Bradbury, Commerce, Covina, Gardena, Huntington Park, La Canada - Flintridge, La Mirada, La Habra, Lakewood, Lynwood, Paramount, Rosemead, San Dimas, Santa Clarita, and South Gate.
To stay relevant and get things done for you - our members, we must elect politicians who support public safety and issues pertaining to staffing levels, wages, hours, and working conditions. There were countless hours of preparation for these interviews of potential candidates for endorsements.
We would like to thank 1st Vice President Lew Currier, 2nd Vice President Kurt Kobler, and Director Tony Carioppolo for their time and effort to ensure our city PAC program remains strong and relevant.
Your Executive Board is vigilant about developing relationships and staying in contact with those who govern us and the citizens we serve. This helps us maintain proper staffing levels for the safety of our members, sufficient response times to emergencies, and adequate resources required to handle such emergencies, and ensures the safety of the public.

COALITION OF COUNTY UNIONS (CCU) BARGAINING – UNIONS UNITED CAMPAIGN
This week was a big week for our Unions United campaign with 80,000+ LA County workers to fight for a fair Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).
We continue to work behind the scenes and meet with members of the Board of Supervisors and the CEO individually to fight for what is fair for our members and the larger LA County workforce. With inflation at above 8% and gas prices rising, we need a raise that is commensurate with the expenses. We will not accept less than what our members deserve.
While we cannot strike, we can support our brothers and sisters at SEIU, who are currently in the midst of a strike vote. This Thursday, we stood in solidarity with other public safety unions to support the SEIU vote. We sent a clear message to the Board of Supervisors that we are in this together. We are prepared to move to job actions to ensure that our voice is heard. We were there for our communities throughout the pandemic. We showed up every day, now it’s time for the Board of Supervisors to show up for us. It’s time to take care of those who took care of LA County.

SUPPORTING OUR PROBATION OFFICERS
On Monday, April 25, we joined professional probation-peace officers, supervisors, and managers were joined by victims of heinous crimes and labor union leaders to rally in support of a solution to strengthen and modernize probation services. LA County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera and President Dave Gillotte, who currently chairs the CCU, attended the rally and spoke to the press about the need for Public Safety Unions and the Union Movement to support our Probation Officers, Social Workers, and the 3-part plan they have formulated to help our juvenile justice system and better the working conditions for our probation officers.
This week is National Crime Survivors Week and we will be supporting actions at the local, state and federal level through our union work to support victims and ensure our labor unions support our workers. Staff from the Board of Supervisors came out to listen and that is the start of change for our communities. The power of our Union Movement is in our solidarity, we will see change as we speak with one voice.

Retired LACOFD Joey Reed's Son Comes Home After Three Year Imprisonment in Russia
Finally, this Friday we are pleased to share some good news for our LACOFD family. Retired Battalion Chief Joey Reed's son Trevor Reed was released from prison as part of a prisoner exchange arranged by President Joe Biden. Trevor is recovering from health conditions he suffered while in prison.
We are so grateful that the Reed family is reunited! |

The blood supply is at an all-time low for the American Red Cross. They are experiencing a severe shortage of O Negative blood with only a one-day supply at times. They have reached out to our Union for help. We consistently show up for the Red Cross so they are once again asking our members and families to step up.
