Friday Update

Brothers & Sisters,

The Executive Board finished a busy week with board meetings with our partners in the house of labor.

We participated in the LA Federation of Labor meeting where we discussed many post-election strategies to ensure support for our jobs and funding proposals for County labor unions. We also participated in the State Board of Fire Services meeting where we worked with commissioners on CICCS and Fire Service training.

Finally, today we joined Fire Union Labor Leaders at UFLAC Local 112 Union Hall for a candidate forum for potential IAFF General President candidates. We had representatives from all of California and the CPF as well as Hawaii, New Mexico, and Arizona. We will work towards a consensus and solidarity of our vote.  We already endorsed Brother Frank Lima in a bid for General Secretary-Treasurer and now we will work to endorse for the General Presidents position.

There are many pressing important issues that split the east coast and west coast as well as pension issues and collective bargaining issues to bridge as we evaluate the candidates.  We will keep you informed as we get ready to head to Convention in January where we will consider candidates and IAFF resolutions that we help craft.  The resolutions set the course politically and legislatively for the next two years at the national and international level for the US and Canada.

COVID CAN'T STOP US FROM FILLING THE BOOT! Virtual Fill The Boot Campaign!

If every member donates just $15 we will make our goal of $50,000!!!

MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND DONATE TODAY!

For 66 years, the IAFF has been committed to supporting MDA and the families they serve. The COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted that support. Children with muscular dystrophy are some of the most susceptible to this virus. Additionally, the quarantine has limited available resources for their parents and caregivers.

The inability of our members to conduct traditional Fill the Boot drives has been devastating to MDA, which still must continue to provide vital services for families in need, especially for their most vulnerable children in the midst of this pandemic.

We have already raised nearly $5,000 for MDA but let's not lose momentum now! Click here to donate just $15 today!!

By now everyone should have received your 1014 Election Ballot.  If you have not, please contact the Union office immediately at 800-334-6285.

Remember:

  • Ballots must be postmarked by U.S. Postal Service and received at the Post Office Box by 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2020, in order to be counted!

  • No hand-carried ballots will be accepted at the Union Hall or at the Post Office.

Ballots will be counted on Monday, November 23rd by California Elections Company (CEC) and results will be posted to the web and sent to stations and sites.

Thank you in advance for your vote and your voice. As always, stay safe and take care of each other.

 In Solidarity and Strength,

President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
