Friday Update 2-20-26
Updated On: Feb 27, 2026

Brothers and Sisters,

The Los Angeles County Fire Department and Local 1014 hosted the February 2026 California Contract Cities Association (CCCA) Board of Directors Meeting and Dinner at the Cecil R. Gehr Memorial Combat Training Center.

Adding to the pride of the evening, our very own Aaron Katon, Director of Local 1014 and Captain PIO, delivered a powerful rendition of the National Anthem, setting the tone for a night centered on partnership, service, and collaboration. The evening showcased the professionalism and diversity of our Department while reinforcing the strong relationships that support fire protection services throughout our contract cities.

Events like this are about relationships, working alongside leaders such as West Hollywood Councilmember John Erickson, who Local 1014 is proudly working hard to elect to the State Senate, and our own LA County Assessor Jeff Prang, as well as councilmembers from cities across Los Angeles County. These partnerships are critical to ensuring our members have the resources, staffing, and legislative support needed to protect the communities we serve.

Local 1014 is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with our contract city partners and elected leaders. Strong relationships build strong communities.

Local 1014 at the CPF District Meeting

This week, Local 1014 representatives joined fellow California Professional Firefighters (CPF) affiliates at the CPF District Meeting, where leaders from the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 8th Districts convened to discuss key labor issues impacting firefighters across Southern California.

The meeting brought members together to share updates, align on legislative and political priorities, and strategize next steps to protect firefighters and the communities we serve.

CPF District Meetings provide a critical forum for collaboration, ensuring that local unions remain coordinated and unified in advancing statewide advocacy efforts. By coming together across districts, we amplify our collective voice in Sacramento and reinforce the strength of organized labor.

LACC Welcomes Paramedic Students from Kyoto, Japan

We were proud to welcome 17 final-year paramedic students and their instructors from Tachibana University in Kyoto, Japan, to the Los Angeles County Communications Center (LACC) during their Southern California tour.

Fire Dispatcher Specialist Muñoz and Senior Fire Dispatcher Diaz provided an inside look at our Fire Dispatcher training program and daily floor operations, followed by a thoughtful and engaging Q&A session.

Opportunities like this highlight the professionalism and expertise of our members while fostering international collaboration in emergency medical services.

Help Needed for Brett “Tony” Sereno's Family

It is with a heavy heart that we share the sudden passing of Information Technology Manager Brett “Tony” Sereno, who died on Friday, January 30, 2026.

Tony served the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Information Management Division with five years of dedicated and faithful service, and he gave 14 years of total service to the County of Los Angeles. His commitment to this Department and to public service reflected the very best of our fire family.

He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loyal brother, and a friend whose presence brought warmth, humor, and steady strength to every room. He showed up fully — for his family, for his colleagues, and for this Department. Many also knew him for his love of the Broncos and the Dodgers, passions he carried with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything else in life.

During this incredibly difficult time, we stand united with Tony’s loved ones as they navigate not only profound grief but also the financial responsibilities that follow such a sudden tragedy.

If you are able, we ask you to consider contributing to support his family. Just as important are your prayers, messages, and continued support as they face the days ahead.

We extend our deepest condolences to Tony’s family, friends, and colleagues. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
