Friday Update 7-18-25
Updated On: Jul 18, 2025

Our hearts are with our brothers and sisters at ALADS today as they mourn the tragic loss of three of their own.

We stand in solidarity with the entire law enforcement community during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen.

Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you to the LA County Fire Museum docents, Board Members, sponsors, and everyone who supported and attended the 6th Annual Retiree Reunion Luncheon.

This special event brought together generations of LA County Fire Fighters—both active duty and retired—at the incredible LA County Fire Museum to celebrate our recent retirees and reconnect with the rich traditions, camaraderie, and shared experiences that define our profession.

Members flew in from across the country, drove in caravans, and filled the museum with laughter, stories, and a sense of pride. With the historic Squad 51 and Engine 51 as our backdrop, we honored those who helped shape our department, from the pioneers of the Paramedic Program and early CISM efforts, to the architects of modern wildland urban interface tactics and ICS.

A special thank you to Fire Chief Marrone, the Board of Supervisors, and the City of Bellflower for their continued support. And to the incredible Museum staff and docents—you made this day unforgettable.

Let’s keep our legacy alive.

Support the Museum and help preserve the stories that connect us all.

LA County’s Erin Regan Honored at the 2025 ESPY Awards with Pat Tillman Award for Service

This week, the world of professional sports paused not only to recognize athletic greatness but to honor perseverance, service, and the power of community at the 2025 ESPY Awards.

Amid a night celebrating the finest in sports, the ESPYs spotlighted a different kind of heroism—one that plays out not in stadiums but on the frontlines of California’s emergencies. The Pat Tillman Award for Service was presented to our own Erin Regan and LAFD’s David Walters, honoring their commitment to service, teamwork, and resilience.

Drawing from their athletic backgrounds, Sister Regan and Brother Walters spoke about the profound parallels between elite sports and the fire service—discipline, teamwork, sacrifice, and showing up for others. In the spirit of Pat Tillman, who gave his life in service to something greater than himself, both recipients reflected on the deeper meaning of public service.

Erin Regan, joined at the event by her wife and son, accepted the award with humility and grace, representing not only LACoFD but the thousands of firefighters across the state who serve every day. David Walters delivered a powerful tribute to his late mother, raising awareness about suicide prevention and behavioral health—a poignant and courageous reminder of the personal battles many face in silence.

This national recognition underscores what we already know: the fire service is built on sacrifice, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the greater good. Congratulations to Sister Regan and Brother Walters for representing all of us with such strength and heart.

Welcoming Our Newest Fire Families – Family Day at Cottonwood Church

This weekend, Local 1014 joined our PEER Support Team, Chaplains, and Behavioral Health clinicians to welcome our newest Fire Families.

Together, we shared candid discussions about the stressors of the job—both on and off the fireground—and connected families to the resources available to support them throughout their journey.

Through open conversations and shared experiences, we connected families to the many resources available—from PEER Support and counseling, to quality care through our health plans—ensuring that no one walks this path alone.

We extend our deepest thanks to the Behavioral Health Team, PEER Support members, Chaplains, and clinicians who built an impactful agenda and showed up with heart. Local 1014 provided a great lunch, allowing us all to break bread together and reinforce the bonds that make our fire family strong.

Bargaining Update

While no formal bargaining sessions with the County occurred this week, Local 1014 continued critical subcommittee work with the Department on key proposals—specifically Behavioral Health, PEER Support, and economic items outside of COLA.

These sessions are essential to define operational details and assess costs and value before reaching Tentative Agreements (T/As) that can move to the County level. We’re working hard to secure support from the Fire Chief for these proposals, along with Plan C and COLA items aimed at achieving public safety parity.

We also completed a detailed multi-week review of the CCU Fringe Benefits Agreement (separate from our salary negotiations), which is now headed to the Board of Supervisors for final approval. This will lock in:
  • 8% annual increases in medical, dental, and vision premiums over 3 years (totaling 24%),
  • and access to the 401(k) savings program beginning in 2026.
Stay tuned as we continue to work closely with the Department over the next few weeks on terms as we reconvene at the table.

NOTE: No other unions in the County have fully settled their contracts. All other public safety unions—representing Lifeguards and Sheriffs—are in the same position regarding their salary MOUs, with no raises received in 2025, now six months past our expiration dates.

We remain in constant communication with our public safety counterparts as we aim to move forward together toward a fair and timely resolution.
