The Department recently released EA 429 to assist FEMA and the Red Cross in a effot to provide assistance to Hurricaine Katrina victims.  Please understand that pursuant to the agreement with FEMA, workers' compensation benefits and LACERA-provided disability benefits will remain intact for the duration of your deployment.  However, before volunteering, please call Will Pryor at (310) 639-1014 or e-mail willp@local1014.org for any updates on salary and benefit issues realted to the deployment.  While Local 1014 appreciates the Department trying to assist FEMA in their efforts, we must make sure all responding employees are covered for their benefits and salary while working for FEMA.
