The Coalition of County Unions (CCU), where we negotiate our fringe benefits, meets every month to protect our collective members' rights under the fringe contract. In addition to the generous benefits increases we negotiated for Choices in October, including eligibility to participate in the 401K savings, we also bargained with the County over work rules and hiring and promotional exam processes.
This week, we continued to push back both legally and at the table on the County's attempt to water down open competitive exams. The County wants to expand the reach of selection from established lists. The CCU holds order of candidates on lists, seniority and experience at a greater value than the County wants to support.
We will continue to bargain over this issue affecting the civil service rules and maintain our position valuing achievement by our members as the bar for promotions.

Congratulations to Cal JAC Paramedic Class 24-1!
This marks the very first Southern California Paramedic Academy sponsored by Local 1014 in partnership with the LA County Fire Department.
We extend a special thank you to our Training Services Section and to the Fire Chief for standing with Labor and making this opportunity possible. By working together, we’ve created a pathway for candidates from our communities—many of whom might not otherwise have access—to earn their place in this rigorous, paramilitary-style academy. Class 24-1 pushed through CPAT prep, daily physical fitness, and uniform inspections, proving their dedication and commitment to the fire service.
Today, we congratulate every graduate as they take the next step to seek employment in fire-based EMS fire departments. You represent the best of what our communities have to offer, and we couldn’t be prouder.
