Local 1014 was working hard this week on our behalf at the Federal, State and Local level to maintain momentum and generate support for our issues including Federal funding, State funding and legislation affecting our PEPRA members, and to push our contracts to a finish. Political action and legislative advocacy is the only way we get things done for our MOU and for our funding a legal movement on laws that protect and advance our issues in California.
Local 1014 Leadership joined California Professional Union Leaders from throughout the State in Sacramento at the Assembly Public Employment and Retirement Committee hearing on Assembly Bill 1383. Bill Author and Fire Fighter Support Assembly Member Tina McKinnor (D) has taken on the challenge of PEPRA reform for our Post PEPRA Members with details of things like retirement age 57 to 55, and raising the retirement cap as some of our top priorities.

Assembly Member McKinnor met with over 100 Fire Union Leaders in the Capitol before we converged on the Committee Hearing to give critical testimony on the importance of this Bill for our members. The committee hear our voice and after the thirty go minutes of testimony including your Local 1014 Board Members, the Committee Passsed AB 1383 with a unanimous bi-partisan vote of 7-0. Unlike DC, we have a good bi-partisan group of leaders we work with to get our business done. Thank you to all Committee members for their support. The Bill now moves to Assembly Appropriations Committee where our work will begin again. We have an uphill battle and push on all of these efforts within the state budget and our advocacy will be critical at every juncture.
That is why FIRE Union leaders will converge upon the State Capital again on May 12th and 13th for the CPF Daniel A. Terry Legislative Conference collective voice to be heard on our priority legislative issues and to engage directly with our LA County District representatives.
We will keep you posted on the work, and if you are a PEPRA member or an officer with PEPRA members in your station, remember to have your crews sign up for the Union e-mail updates, where every Friday news and information about our issues, including PEPRA items are covered. We need a personal, non-department e-mail to sign you up. Also, if you missed it, check out our Webinar on Plan C Post PEPRA issues for more information. |

LOCAL 1014 RELEASES “RESILIENCE – THE UNTOLD STORY OF LA COUNTY FIRST RESPONDERS”
This week, we were proud to announce the release of a powerful new short film with LA County First Responders, including ALADS, IAFF Local 1014, PPOA, and LACoLA.
This film spotlights the heroic efforts of first responders from across the county during the devastating Eaton Fire and Palisades Fires. It captures the bravery, coordination, and unwavering commitment our members demonstrated in the face of these disasters. We cannot afford to forget what we have experienced.
This documentary is a tribute---A testimony. But it’s also a call to action for our elected officials and the CEO.
We ask that the same courage and commitment our members showed in those fires be reflected in how we care for them—through fair wages, strong protections, and long-term support. We deserve a fair and transparent bargaining process. This week, we sent a clear message: we will fight for a fair contract for our members, and we will bring the public with us. We are back at the bargaining table on May 1st. We will keep you updated.
Until then, please share this documentary on your social media and send a message that we deserve a fair contract.

On the heels of our rally at the Board of Supervisors last week, we continued actively negotiating with the Coalition of County Unions (CCU) for our fringe benefits contracts. We saw excellent movement at that table due largely to our members' strong presence last week.
Solidarity is the fuel that moves these tables, and we expect good news on that front soon, as we look to close one table and focus on the salary table. We will keep you updated as we move forward. |

CAPTAINS ACADEMY GRADUATES TODAY! ENGINEERS ACADEMY CANDIDATES APPLY - LAST 5 DAYS TO SUBMIT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION!
Congratulations to our second class of “Officer Candidate Academy” graduates. These proud Local 1014 members will join the ranks of CAPTAIN today and, with our last class, infuses nearly 60 well-trained, ready Captains into the field to lead our stations. The academy has been grueling and hard for all with written questions and simulations beyond any level of training our Captains have ever had, and they hit the streets with skills in hand and a network of resources to be successful.
We want to thank the Fire Chief for working with President Gillotte, and the Executive Staff of the Department for working with the Executive Board of Local 1014 to make this trial possible and we will look at the results and if we have a system that may work better and more efficiently to recruit and train Officers for our Department, then talks will occur to negotiate changes to the promotional process. We’ll keep you posted as we navigate this new territory that we proposed and the department embraced. This was a true labor-management collaboration and a striking example of what right looks like and what can be accomplished when we work together with a common goals and objectives. |
