Friday Update 11-4-22
Updated On: Dec 11, 2022

Sisters and Brothers,

This week, your Local 1014 Executive Board continued the fight for workers' compensation reform at the highest level. We have heard your cries for help and live in the same harsh reality of a broken workers' compensation program.

This dysfunctional system contributes to a record number of individuals off on injury suffering through pain, emotional distress and causing financial hardship. Our fight for our members' health and well-being will not stop. All of us deserve to be treated like professional athletes. To receive proper care without getting lost in the workers' compensation system. Firefighters, healthy, happy and properly healed, are the single most important resource to the public and we need to be treated as such.

Local 1014 is fighting for our members and moving towards a brighter future and a workers compensation system that values our members and their families and gets them the help they need. Thank you to President Dave Gillotte, and Directors Chris Reade, Jason Cervantes for giving heartfelt testimony to help drive a Board of Supervisors motion for a change.

We would also like to thank Supervisors Janice Hahn and Kathryn Barger for showing us continued support and making the motion to support all the hard-working men and women of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

We would like to encourage all of you to please take the time to listen to our video below and read the Board of Supervisors' motion related to workers' compensation.

The fight is far from over but through our solidarity and strong union work, we will see change.

CALL TO ACTION! ALL MEMBERS!!! RALLY AT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS!!!!

On Tuesday, November 15th, we ask that all off-duty members attend a rally for a fair contract at the Board of Supervisors. We need our members to show them that we are united!

Make your voice heard! Bring your families! If your family cannot attend, please bring a 8x11 photo of your family.

We need our members to again show the County that we are united and that we will not accept less than what we deserve. The Board of Supervisors (BOS) needs to hear from our members about the disappointment we are all feeling in our Department's lack of leadership. From the COVID mandate to the broken worker’s comp system, to the training cadre fiasco, our members have been put through enough. It’s time for the County to step up and show up for our members.

We will be joined by our Coalition of County Unions partner unions. We do not stand alone, we have 80,000 County workers united behind us to fight for a fair contract for our members.

Please wear your Local 1014 shirt, or a non-Department fire shirt, if you have one. If you do not have a shirt, one will be provided for you at the rally. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

Parking is available at the following locations:

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels
555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles

Overflow at:

Music Center Garage - Auto Park 14

135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles

It's time for us to take the fight for a fair contract for our members to the Board of Supervisors! Solidarity! Local 1014 Strong!

In Solidarity We Work to the Rule,

President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
