Representing over 3200 Firefighters, Paramedics, Dispatchers,
Pilots, Wildland Firefighters, Fire Prevention, Forestry

and Health Haz Mat Personnel

Brothers & Sisters,

On behalf of the 3,200 members of Los Angeles County Firefighters, Local 1014, we wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Healthy Holiday Season!

As 2020 comes to a close, we look back on a difficult year but we also look forward to a better healthier 2021. We are blessed to work for the greatest Fire Department in the nation. In spite of overwhelming odds, all our Local 1014 members including Firefighters, Paramedics, Dispatch, Heavy Equipment, Health Haz-Mat, Forestry, Camps, and Pilots remain committed to the mission of providing world-class service to the over 4 million residents of the unincorporated communities of Los Angeles County and 59 contract cities we serve each day.

We know that you and your families are making sacrifices this holiday to ensure the safety of our fellow brothers and sisters and the communities we serve. We not only recognize this sacrifice we are forever thankful for your commitment.

As we begin to roll out vaccines throughout the Department and the nation, we would like to remind everyone that Local 1014 is
strongly recommending all members be vaccinated for their own protection and the protection of their brothers and sisters, family members, friends, and communities. It is critical that members are protected through vaccinations to maintain their readiness to respond to COVID-19 and other emergencies, as the number of positive tests, hospitalizations, and deaths from COVID-19 continues to rise amidst flu season. We work in confined and uncontrolled environments while treating or transporting patients or interacting with the public and are, therefore at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19. Click here to listen to the CPF podcast regarding COVID vaccines. If you have not already, please also watch the excellent video from our own Dr. Clayton Kazan regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.

This is an opportunity for our members to protect themselves and their families as we continue to fight on the frontline.  WEAR YOUR MASK, PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND WASH YOUR HANDS.

Special thank you to the Health Programs Services Staff, and EMS Section including the leaders who are serving from the frontlines - Doctors Kazan, Gupta, and Kashani. Health Programs Services and EMS staff, under their leadership, have been working tirelessly and selflessly all through this pandemic. They are to be commended. Their work is very much appreciated by all of us as they too will be working over the holidays to vaccinate us and keep us safe. Coping with COVID This Holiday Season

The holidays are a time of joy and gratitude but they can also be a time of stress especially this year when we are feeling the physical and emotional toll of the COVID-19 pandemic on our Department and our way of life.

As frontline responders, firefighters and their families have confronted the challenges of the year more than most. These challenges come on top of the difficult calls and separation from families that are a part of the job.

That is why it is important to remind all our members to take care of each other. If you or one of your fellow brothers and sisters need help, please reach out and get that help. The Peer Support Team is always there to help or visit www.healingourown.org

Finally, please take a moment to watch the special holiday message from CPF President Brian Rice on coping with the holidays for our First Responders. WATCH: Coping with the Holidays.
