Friday Update

Brothers & Sisters,

This week, as the nation continues to grapple not only with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but also civil unrest, we would like our members to know how proud we are of your continued professionalism and dedication to all our communities in face of overwhelming circumstances. We are proud to represent you and your families.

As we continue to serve on the frontlines to protect lives and property together with our public safety and healthcare partners, we would like to remind our members to please stay safe and healthy both physically and mentally. Please be mindful of taking time to recover and be mindful of how much or often you are watching the news or on social media. Use the resources in your stations, our Peer Support Teams, and/or HealingOurOwn.org if you or your family need to support or need to talk to someone.

2020-21 Budget

As you know the events of this year have put a strain in the County budget and resources. Rest assured that your Union Board is in constant contact with the Board of Supervisors, the CEO, and the Department to continue to fight for our members and their families. As we near the opening of our next contract negotiations, we remain constantly vigilant and are working with our partners to ensure that we have the resources we need for our communities and our families. As we watch the economic impacts of COVID-19 throughout the State and their effect on public safety, we stand in solidarity with our brother and sister unions to ensure that we remain whole as we fight on the frontlines.

Partially as a result of the economic crisis, we are seeing more contract cites wanting to come into our County family. The City of Vernon's process is nearly completed and West Covina is currently finalizing their formal survey. We are working closely with the City Councils in each of these cities as well as the Board of Supervisors to ensure that we can grow our Department and revenue while helping to provide service to cities that need it within the County. We will have more on this as this process progresses.

LAST WEEK TO SIGN UP!!! 1014 Blood Drive

The Red Cross is experiencing a severe shortage of blood due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has not only limited donors but also available sites for blood drives. As part of our commitment to our communities, we are hosting a blood drive and partnering with Supervisor Hilda Solis to help get the word out that we need donors.

This drive will be open to the public but by appointment only. No walk-in accepted. We also require donors to fill out an online form in advance, wear a face covering or mask for your appointment, and adhere to our social distancing requirements.
