Each year Firefighters across the nation take to the streets, including Firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) “Fill the Boot” events across the country to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy live longer and grow stronger. 

On May 22-24, 2019, Los Angeles County Fire and Local 1014 will be engaging in a countywide Fill the Boot campaign. We will begin asking our members to volunteer their time to walk the streets and ask the residents of Los Angeles County to “Fill the Boot.”

This week, in support of our efforts, Local 1014 hosted a station dinner for MDA families at Station 118 in City of Industry. Over the past three years LA County Fire alone has raised over $360,000 in support of MDA, through participation in our annual Fill the Boot campaign. We are the second largest fundraiser in the state for the MDA—this year, we want to to #1!

Reminder: 1014 Regional Meeting 

As part of the Local 1014 Executive Board’s effort to make union meetings more accessible for our members we will be hosting a regional meeting in Calabasas in the theatre at King Gillette Ranch.  

One of the most stunning locales in the Santa Monica Mountains, 588-acre King Gillette Ranch offers a rare unspoiled view of California’s rich archeological, cultural, and historic resources, including a Chumash settlement, and nationally significant structures designed for razor magnate King C. Gillette in the 1920’s by Wallace Neff, architect of California’s Golden Age.
