New Pomona Resource to Be Evaluated
Updated On: Oct 292, 2005

Beginning in November a new engine configuration will be tried out in Pomona. 1014 and the Department have agreed to a 3-person engine staffed with a paramedic firefighter and a paramedic engineer at 183's. Unlike the Department's 4-person paramedic engine companies, this unit will still have a squad responding with it on suspected ALS calls.  On the other hand, unlike the Department's 3-person assessment engines, the unit will take some presumed obvious BLS calls without a squad initially dispatched unless the company captain requests one.

1014 and the Department have agreed to a number of policy parameters for this unit and are working on others for its implementation.  Both sides agree that the most important concern is always patient care.  The Department will issue clear policy protocols regarding this new unit before November 1.

We want to emphasize that this unit will NOT operate the same as nor substitute for a 4-person paramedic engine.  It is a new configuration that deserves a fair trial run to judge its effectiveness for the citizens, for the Department, and for our members.
