A couple of our eagle-eyed members compared their latest paychecks with those of previous months and noticed that this one had a larger-than-normal deduction for LACERA retirement.  We checked into it, and this month's paycheck included expected increased LACERA deductions for our increased pay, but also one-time "catch-up" deductions for any retroactive pay increases and for the $2500 signing bonus, which is fully pensionable. 

   Thanks to those who brought up the issue and gave 1014 the heads up.  Although all of those noted LACERA deductions are themselves tax deductible, welcome to the wonderful world of pay-as-you-go.
