ELECTION DAY
Updated On: Nov 309, 2008

It is finally here...

November 4th is the day we thought would never get here. Election day is the day that as Americans we get to VOTE. Your 1014 Board put out our recommendations but the most important thing is for you to GET OUT AND VOTE for whomever you think is best for you and your family.

Your 1014 Executive Board will be out early and all day to work the phones, knock on doors and help get people to the polls. We will then join Mark Ridley-Thomas and other labor organizations to watch the returns and celebrate.

Here is some useful web sites that may help you today.

If you have any questions email us at info@local1014.org

We will post updates as often as possible and give completeresults.

Here is some information about the LA County Labor Feds efforts that we have been part of:

It’s been an incredible couple of months since we began our efforts to elect Mark Ridley-Thomas to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

We also worked hard to reach the 2/3 majority in Sacramento and approve Measure J, Measure R and Measure Q. Since mid September,

  • Union volunteers covered 3,000+ shifts
  • from more than 80 different union affiliates;
  • Phone called an average of six hours a day, six days a week;
  • Dialed nearly 1.7 million calls
  • Talked to 247,000 union households, in
  • LA County, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington and Alaska;

Making the Labor Movement the LARGEST LABOR PHONE BANK OPERATION IN THE UNITED STATES!

We also have put forth tremendous efforts in our local contract cities, especially in Pomona where we wxpect good results again in P-Town.  There are a variety of existing fee and tax measures that we have supported in the local cities to help stabilize and keep in tact existing funding that pays for our services.  Your Union, our Union has spent a tremendous amount of money and manpower and effort to remain top players in the areas that count for our wages, hours and benefits.

Electing good leaders to the areas we serve so that we can have not only an ear, but a voice to protect our way of life and our way of service to the citizens.  The MRT Election to the Board of Supervisors will be particulary a sweet victory.  Over 8 million dollars from working class labor Unions was needed to get the work done.  OUr little 3100 member Local produced and contributed over 1.2 million dollars of the effort to let you know how we played, and to what level we played in this important election.  We have never been along for the ride and we have been a part of the key decision making team from the start of this effort.  This effort will pay dividends long into the future of our memberhsip.

Thank you to all who helped and thank you to all for your support to get this done.  We will give a detailed post election wrap up when it is over.  TO VICTORY!!!

Fraternally,

Dave Gillotte and the Entire Executive Board
