Friday Update 7-19-24
Updated On: Sep 05, 2024

Brothers and Sisters,

This week, your Local 1014 Executive Board showed up strong to the Board of Supervisors meeting to advocate for support and approval of our LA County Fire Safety Measure.

We are pleased to announce that we received unanimous support from all five supervisors to place the measure on the November 2024 ballot after we secured over 180,000 signatures from district voters.

As we have said many times, political action is the most important thing we do to affect our wages, hours, and working conditions, and it was never more important than this past Tuesday when we made history as a Local. This measure is the first citizen initiative ever run in a special district.

While we made history this Tuesday, the real work begins now. We will need every member of the community to tell their story. With an aging fleet, outdated communication equipment, and staffing below the national 4-0 standard, we have a lot on the line. We need our members to band together for our future. Let's get this done!

As always, thank you to our members for your continued support as we move to the next phase of this measure and securing our future.

This week, the LA County Fire Museum hosted the annual retirement celebration for nearly 500 retirees.

“I was proud to represent Local 1014 at the annual LA County Fire Museum’s Retirement Event this last Tuesday. This year’s event had close to 500 current and most importantly retired members of this great Department. Anyone who has ever listened to the many stories of the legends that came before us and all the amazingly courageous things they did for our residents, our department and for us, must ask themselves what happened to these folks? I found that answer on Tuesday, I saw so many of my former mentors and heroes all gathered together in one of the greatest venues.

The Museum hosted an amazing event and they did it because they care and support the cause: the celebration of our profession and the people that made the job of being a LA County Firefighter the absolute best in the world.

I recommend everyone, including you young folks on the job, to make plans for next year’s event on July 15th, 2025. Local 1014 would like to thank the LA County Fire Museum and all the organizations that supported and represented our members during this year’s event.”

-Local 1014 Director Mike Cash

CONTRACT CITIES EVENT HOSTED BY LA COUNTY FIRE

LA County Fire and Local 1014 were honored to host California Contract Cities today for a fiesta-themed lunch. Cities leaders from all 60 of our contract cities were present as we demonstrated our AirOps, HazMat, USAR, and EMS/paramedic capabilities.

This event is an opportunity to educate our elected officials on the value LA County Fire brings and the challenges we face as we protect our communities. We also had an opportunity to educate them on the upcoming ballot initiative and the need for funding and revenue streams that will take us into the future as our county and our contract cities grow and our emergency calls continue to grow.

In Solidarity,

President Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
