FRIDAY UPDATE

Brothers and Sisters,

We have been busy this last month with work on legislation, hiring, and staffing including both temporary and long-term strategies for our vacancies and injury situation. Over the weekend we returned from helping our brothers and sisters in El Paso heal from the impact of the mass shooting earlier this month. Now it's time to tackle another very important issue.

In May members brought not only their voice but their vote to a General Membership Meeting where Motion No 058-19 was made to establish a Trial Schedule Change Committee.  The Board of Supervisors has ratified our Fringe Benefit Contract and we are now finishing the approval from LACERA for pension inclusion on a few of the items from both salary and fringe.

I have received communications from a number of members who are interested in participating on the committee. I am putting this out one more time to solicit interested individuals from a cross-section of our members who would like to work on this issue.

I will appoint the committee this next week and we will get to work looking for possible schedules to propose for a one-year trial. Once that work is done we will put this to a simple majority vote of the members for consideration.

If you are interested in participating in this committee, please contact me directly via email with the following information:

  • Name,
  • Shift,
  • Station,
  • Station Phone Number,
  • Personal Email Address,
  • Cellphone,
  • and a Brief Statement on why you want to serve on the Committee.

Please send to daveg@local1014.org and copy michelle@local1014.org. The work will consist of a few hours a day over multiple days resulting in a recommendation to the Executive Board on language, type of schedule or schedules and a strategy for getting this information out to the members. I am looking to fill the committee ASAP and get to work over the next 30 - 60 days to get this wrapped up and out to a vote of the membership. If you have any questions please call or text me at 310-925-2358. I am on Engine 9 B.

We will get through our differences on this issue, have a robust debate, and a simple majority vote to determine the course of what we do next.  I am confident that we can get a resolution on this very important issue.  I look forward to hearing from you all.

In Solidarity,

President Dave Gillotte
