June 7, 2016 Local 1014 Primary Election Endorsements

The June 7, 2016 Primary Election is Around the Corner in California and we would like to share Los Angeles County Fire Fighters Local 1014 Recommendations and Endorsements for the Elections. The most important elections we are working on are the County Board of Supervisors Races, District 4 and 5. These two races will replace Supervisors Mike Antonovich (District 5) and Don Knabe (District 4). These two positions will add to the firefighter friendly structure of the Board of Supervisors. We are involved in a very heavy Firefighter and Sheriff Union alliance to help elect Kathryn Barger in the 5th. You will see our television commercials, hear our radio adds, see us on social media and receive our print mail if you live or work in District 5. We are also heavily invested in helping Janice Hahn to win in the 4th as well.

Local 1014 and the IAFF and the CPF have considered Fire Fighter Union Issues and made the following recommendations and endorsements for this Primary Election and we respectfully ask for you to consider your paycheck items and the votes needed to protect our profession as you make your selections. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors

District 4 - Janice Hahn (D) - Kenny Hahn's Daughter and Longtime Local 1014 and California Fire Fighter Supporter. (Don Knabe's Seat)
District 5 - Kathryn Barger (R) - Champion of LA County Firefighter Issues including HALTING CELL TOWERS AT LAC FIRE STATIONS. (Mike Antonovich's Seat)

Presidential Election

IAFF - No Recommendation for the Primary Election - Both Republican and Democratic Candidates did not take support positions on Fire Fighter Issues in the Primary to warrant an endorsement. The IAFF will reconsider endorsing in the General Election.

CA Senate

Attorney General Kamala Harris - Longtime friend and ally of Local 1014 and California Firefighters protecting our PENSIONS, right to collectively bargain and in Attorney General Opinions as the State's Attorney.

City Political Action

Oppose Measure Y - Pomona Electronic Bill Boards - No Revenue for Fire - Citizens Oppose and Only Pomona PD to receive any Public Safety Money

Support Measure C - Carson - Extension of a User Utility Tax Until 2023 - Fee for Service City with Revenue for Their Contract with LA Co FD

We have No City Council or Mayoral Races This Cycle, but we will be involved with Elections in Pomona, Malibu and Palmdale in November.

College of the Canyons Bond Measure
Measure E will improve facilities for firefighting, law enforcement, EMT and nursing programs by creating a Center for Public Safety & Health Sciences to expand the college's successful fire technology (pre-service and in-service) program.
