IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR LOCAL 1014 MEMBERS
Yesterday, the Department and the County decided to release records to the LA Times related to the recent Auditor-Controller’s Report regarding the past FF Exam. The Department and the County gave no notice to Local 1014 or the employees of this Department that may be affected. We want to inform our membership of this action and the potential impact to our personal and professional lives, a courtesy the Department and the County did not afford the employees.
The Department and the County have released e-mails and records relating to the County Auditor-Controller Report on the past Firefighter Exam process. These records include names / ranks / positions of employees including managers and chiefs and staff. Specifically employees involved in any aspect of the past FF exam process and candidate selection process and any employees who took part in mock oral interviews and training on County property as described in the Auditor-Controller report.
The Union has opposed this action and cited the confidentiality of the information especially as we represent members in due process procedures. It is important to note the County and the Department gave no opportunity to respond to their actions before the unilateral decision to release these records.
We wanted the membership to be aware of this action taken by the Department and the County. It is readily apparent to our membership and the public we serve that the Auditor-Controller’s Report is seriously flawed and out of context. It is also clear that the “Yellow-Journalism” of the LA Times may continue with little regard for the truth and they will write what they want despite the facts at hand and the full story.
We therefore recommend to all members to give “NO COMMENT” to the press on this item and if contacted by the Department regarding any of these items, as always, call your Union for representation IMMEDIATELY.
