WE SHALL NEVER FORGET!
Today is the 9 year anniversary of the
horror of America under attack on her own soil. That
attack left our profession forever scarred in a way that we truly cannot ever
forget. We exclaimed "We Shall
Never Forget" with reverence and respect to our brothers and sisters who
died on 9.11, nine years ago today.
Today is more than remembrance of only 9.11 victims, but
rather a day to remember and reflect on all firefighter line of duty deaths
that have affected our profession.
Today in Colorado Springs at the IAFF National Fallen Fire Fighter
Memorial hundreds of firefighters and family members gather to place 136 more
firefighter's names on the memorial wall. 52
of these firefighters gave their lives last calendar year and 84 firefighters
who will be recognized from previous years.
Los Angeles County Fire Fighters, IAFF Local # 1014 will
honor and place 7 of our own on the memorial wall this beautiful morning. Together with the family of our fallen,
we will take time to proudly remember the service of these brave men and women.

Pipe and Drummers will join the family and firefighters in Memorial Park in
Colorado Springs to pay tribute. I
encourage members to log on to our website and link to the IAFF website to see
additional information and photo's of the National Fire Fighter Memorial. We will bring back photos and coverage
of the event.
Special thanks to the entire Union Executive Board for
making this event come together for the families of our fallen, thanks to the
Fire Chief for his support and to the Honor Guard Members and Pipes and
Drummers and Chaplains who help make this event so special.
In closing, we remind every firefighter from Local 1014, the
Los Angeles County Fire Fighters, to take time to "Remember" all firefighters
who gave their lives in the line of duty, and go beyond that to remember all
of our brothers and sisters who have passed including those who did not die
in the line of duty, but died suddenly and unexpectedly and were taken from
their families, like John Talley and Dean Stewart.
We have services for Dean Stewart on Monday (Flag Ceremony)
and Tuesday (Funeral) and I hope we see a large gathering of Uniformed
Personnel come to pay their respects to the Stewart Family. It is what we do; it is the family we
are part of. We have attached the
Funeral and Flag Services information.
We have cancelled the General Membership
Meeting so that all can attend Dean's Services. Hope to see you
all there.
"WE SHALL NEVER FORGET" .....rather "WE SHALL REMEMBER"....today
