EMS Issues Committee - Phase III
Updated On: Jul 210, 2007
President Gillotte appointed Dave Morse and Pat Dolan to co-chair an EMS committee to make recommendations to the department regarding the recent issues which highlighted a need for change in this Section.  The next phase of our work is detailed below. Thanks to all for your work...
EMS COMMITTEE- PHASE III

First of all, Local 1014 would like to thank each and every member who stepped up to volunteer to serve on the EMS Committee.  The goals and objectives for this committee are two-fold.

First, identify the problems in the system and second, attempt to find ways to resolve them.  These issues include but are not limited to:  continuing education, skills testing, certification and recertification, labor and management relationships with regards to EMS issues, policies and procedures and many others.

Be prepared to come forth with ideas as well as solutions to these issues.  Your Local 1014 Executive Board will be prepared to take these ideas and possible solutions directly to management for their review and input.  We are tentatively scheduling our first sessions for the middle of August.  These sessions will be held over two consecutive days here at Local 1014’s meeting hall.  Food and drinks will be provided.

We have had a significant response to our request for volunteers.  We have had over 50 members who responded in some capacity.  Some wanted to be part of the committee while others had stories.  Either way, all e-mails were read and valuable information was gathered.  This committee is not limited to just EMT’s and paramedics.  It is open to FFS’s and Captains as well.

If you would like to be part of the committee, feel free to E mail me at Pdolan@local1014.org or the union hall at mail@local1014.org or info@local1014.org.  I will send out confirming e-mails to all of you, keeping you informed of the status of the meetings and future developments.

Remember, the goal of all this is to bring Los Angeles County Fire Department’s EMS system back to the forefront of EMS service.  We should strive to be the benchmark for all other departments to achieve.  Through hard work and dedication, we will achieve this goal.

Fraternally,

Your Executive Board
