Local 1014 Dues Reduction
December 15, 2006
To all Local 1014 members:
Just over a year and a half ago Local 1014 members voted themselves a temporary dues increase to 1½ % of top step firefighter (up from 1%) to fund critical pension battles against Governor Schwarzenegger as well as to engage many other serious state and local political conflicts. That important increase in revenues to 1014 was money was well invested, as Local 1014 was extremely successful over the past 20 months in not only protecting our members’ wages and benefits but in fact increasing them to unprecedented levels.
The temporary dues increase is automatically sun-setting this month. A measure that the 1014 Board put forth on the November ballot that would have permanently set dues at 1¼% did not receive majority support from the membership, meaning that dues will return to 1% of top step firefighter at the beginning of this year.
Effective January 1, 2007, membership dues will decrease to $63.98 monthly, which is 1% of top step firefighter salary of $6,198 plus the regular $2.00 legislative fee. The dues decrease will be reflected on members’ January 15th pay stubs.
Old monthly dues: $91.38
New monthly dues: $63.98
The 1014 Executive Board would like to thank the membership for its support for the temporary dues increase. It allowed us to succeed politically and financially for our membership in ways that we might not have experienced if we had not had the membership’s backing. While we were disappointed that we could not gain support for the 1¼% dues structure, 1014 accepts the results and will adjust its operational budget accordingly.
Everyone, please SAFELY enjoy the holidays and your families. Continue to call or email us with your questions and comments about any subject.
