Holiday Buyback Payoff (Part 1)
Updated On: Jan 17, 2006

LA County has informed 1014 that anyone who is being automatically paid off for excess vacation or holiday time for the end of 2005 will be paid for that time on his regular paycheck issued at the end of January.  Originally County had told us that payment would likely be issued as a separate check; however, they now say that past payoffs have been included as part of January paychecks and they will continue that practice.

They have also informed us that any excess vacation hours an individual has beyond the 720-hour vacation payoff limit will go into a Vacation Time Bank, while any excess holiday time an individual has beyond the 396-hour holiday payoff limit will go into a separate Holiday Time Bank.  The hours in both Time Banks will be available for an individual to take time off or to keep until retirement, but County wants to keep the hours in separate accounts.  The Department is working on separate "time off" codes for both banks and should be issuing an EA soon that will clarify the issue.
