We Shall Not Forget...Captain Phil Arreguin
Updated On: Jul 188, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I would like to take a minute to tell you about one of our Brothers who unexpectedly passed away on July 1st.

His name was Phil Arreguin, and he was a friend of mine…a friend to many, and most importantly a father and a husband to a loving family.

We have seen far too many of our sisters and brothers die over the years and we need to remind ourselves to take time to remember.  “We shall never forget”…remember those words?

I am asking the membership to take a moment and realize what it means to be a family in the fire service and what it means to be there for each other and to take time to attend Phil’s Flag Service on July 9th or his Funeral Service on July 10th or attend both if you can.

A flag ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Los Angeles County Fire Department

Fire Station 14

1401 W. 108th Street

Los Angeles, CA 90047-4905

A service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church

241 S. Valley Center Avenue

Glendora, CA 91741

(626) 914-3941

                                   Interment will immediately follow at:

Queen of Heaven

2161 S. Fullerton Road

Rowland Heights, CA 91748

(626) 965-6212

Cards and letters are welcome and can be sent to:

Emilia Arreguin

1487 Hawkcrest Drive

Corona, CA 92879

Take a day off, or if you’re off scratch and keep it off…put on your uniform or class A, don your cap and help a family, a station, a battalion, a division, a department remember one of our own in a traditional way.

Phil passed away due to a heart issue…nothing more, nothing less.  Presumed to be job related and with the years of service he put in not that uncommon any more.

For those of us who worked with and around Phil Arreguin, the Fire Captain, Engineer, Inspector, Fire Fighter whose shirt would never see the top button closed ever with that neck, always had food on his shirt, and a grin from ear to ear as he expertly did his job like a grown man, he was a treasure those who really knew him.

We hope to see you at the ceremonies to remember a good man.

Fraternally,

Dave Gillotte and the Local 1014 Executive Board
